The study covered the following areas among others:

  1. Status of Transport in Kampala City
  2. Parking in Kampala
  3. Review of available Parking Technologies
  4. Status of Parking Management Operations
  5.  Review of Traffic Congestion Solution
  6. Parking  Fee Structure

Recommendation of appropriate Technology mix for Kampala

Objectives for the Study

  1.  To increase efficiency of service delivery and customer satisfaction
  2.  To reduce the number and value of defaults on Parking fees
  3. To increase revenue from Street Parking for the benefit of all Stakeholders
  4. To achieve reasonable Automation without substantial loss of jobs.

Kampala being a Capital City of Uganda, an Administrative Centre and Commercial hub attracts a lot of Traffic in various forms.

The vehicles using Kampala Roads include Private Vehicles (Cars and Pick-ups), Goods Vehicles, Motor Cycles and Public Transport Fleet.  The vehicles that use Kampala Roads are around 60% of total Motor Vehicles registered in the Country.

The Public transport commuters are dominated by 14 Seater Passenger Taxis, Single Passenger Commuter Taxis (Bodabodas) and 4 Passenger Rental Cars (Special Hire).  The number of large Public Transport Buses in the City is very small relative to the population.

The dominance of small Public Transport Commuters coupled with rapidly rising population of both people and vehicles has created serious Traffic Congestion.
