Dimension
The job holder is a part of the company Maintenance team and will report directly to the Electrical Lead Engineer.
Tilenga site has over 220 LV-HV Variable Speed Drive (VSD), largest number in an E&P asset. He shall work as part of the Electrical discipline for the facilities preparing operational maintenance activities (procedure, contracts, spare parts requirements) for electrical systems ensuring that they are technically accurate and can be executed in a safe and efficient manner in the production phase.
They shall develop their understanding of the operational requirements and the discipline to be ready to support operations at start-up. After start-up, he will ensure support to site on all topics related to Electrical.
He will also ensure the continuous training of Electrical Junior engineers.

Activities
Project Phase:
- Participate in the review of documents and files in the Electronic Data Management System issued by the EPC to ensure they are of sufficient quality to be utilized for MIE activities and by Maintenance Personnel onsite during the Operational phase.
- Ensure the preparation of complex site maintenance procedures for VSDs including any maintenance and testing procedures and LOTO (lockout -tagout) procedure for safe intervention.
- Take active role in the Operating Spare Parts selection process and procurement activities and assist Spare Parts Coordinator as required with the detailed spares requirement per equipment, inspection, shipment, delivery, and storage of spares in COMPANY warehouse(s).
- Participate in the review of documents and files in the Electronic Data Management System created and issued by the MIE Spares Contractor.
- Ensure adequate preparation, review and validation of the Maintenance dossiers
- Preparation of Company Management System (CMS) documents within area of responsibility
- Attend SAT/FATs at vendor premises as required
- Assistance with the Commissioning/start up teams and Production/Maintenance/Inspection COMPANY teams as required.
- Develop Digital Tools for VSD health and condition monitoring and ensure applications are in place that are required to effectively manage maintenance operations post Startup
- Assist to optimize VSD operation and functionality by developing and improving parameters and tools (PI AF)
- Develop technical Scopes of Work for Specialized Maintenance Contracts (SMCs) and be the technical duet for the Call for Tender process.
- Ensure and develop an overview strategy for VSD and skid components interventions with all interconnexions and functionalities as ECS (electrical control system), LV- HV Power Distribution, PMS (Power management System)
Operational Phase (additional to Project activities):
- Provide specialist technical/engineering advice and guidance to site personnel on the operation and maintenance of VSDs ensuring high safety standards, a timely response to queries and minimal disruption to operations
- Ensure all VSD are maintained and kept in optimum working condition
- Ensure a constant follow up of VSD equipment regarding their obsolescence and prepare any required upgrade
- Perform advanced troubleshooting for surface equipment as well as downhole system ESP system in relation with drilling team. Participate in ESP failure analysis. Liaise with HQ if needed.
- Contribute to the ongoing monitoring of strategies for the maintenance and operation of plant/equipment to ensure that all plant and equipment meet verification and compliance requirements
- Proactively monitor, review and analyze plant and equipment performance using Digital Tools and provide feedback to Line Management, identifying opportunities to maximize production and performance and share best practice
- Ensure the Condition Based Maintenance is used to maximize electrical equipment availability whilst maintaining the technical integrity of the equipment.
- Prepare scopes of work for vendor services, repairs or modifications, make recommendations on preferred contractors and co-ordinate vendors, materials and equipment for planned and unplanned activities, monitoring and controlling manpower usage.
- Conduct ad-hoc technical surveys at site and at vendor/repair locations, providing detailed technical reports identifying problems and solutions and ensuring optimum performance from contractors.
- Develop / monitor/challenge/improve maintenance procedure implemented for VSDs.
- Ensure all relevant operations and maintenance procedures and documentation are maintained in an accurate and current status and are available on request
- Develop and maintain good working relationships with site personnel through effective communication and by making regular visits to site
- Develop positive and constructive relationships with contractors and suppliers. Identify opportunities to improve contractor/supplier performance, reduce costs and improve the quality of services/products supplied.
- Ensure follow-up of Electrical contracts in terms of budget and scope performance
- Participate to budget definition and follow up for his activities
- Assist the department management and planning team in implementing the scheduling of discipline maintenance activities ensuring that site personnel have all resources (resources, materials, procedures) to timely execute the tasks.
- Ensure continuous training and upskilling of Junior engineers working in the Team
- Ensure compliance with Company Rules and utilize Guide & Manual in electrical activities.
Context and environment
There is no equivalent project of such an industrial drilling magnitude in a remote and sensitive area within the Company today.
A Green Field Project, the Tilenga field is to be found in a remote location in UGANDA near lake Albert with particularly sensitive environmental conditions.
A challenging project: heavy and waxy oils produced from 31 drilling pads, (with some of them located in a national park) and treated in a Production Center of 200,000bopd oil capacity and 650,000 bld of water treatment capacity. Reservoir pressure maintenance is ensured either by water injection or by polymer water injection depending on the reservoir’s characteristics. The project also includes an extended interconnecting network with temperature preservation.
Multicultural environment: Contractors are anticipated to be in various parts of the world. Ugandan rules and regulations, administrative requirements and technical authorizations as well as international codes for onshore plant will apply.
Accountabilities
- Ensure high safety standards and continuity and optimization of production

Qualifications/Experience required
Qualification:
Degree in Electronic/Electrical Engineering from an accredited university or equivalent.
Experience:
- Minimum 10 years’ experience in VSDs and maintenance in the Oil & Gas environment, two years of which must have been spent working on an operational plant.
- A good working knowledge of office software packages such as Excel, and preferably experienced in a CMIMS (e.g. SAP, MAXIMO)
