JOB SUMMARY
The Account Assistant will support the Finance Manager (FM) with all THRIVE accountings in Uganda. The Account Assistant will provide technical assistance and backup support in the absence of the Finance Manager. The Account Assistant will provide second-line oversight to ensure all policies and procedures for sounds fiscal responsibility are followed at all levels of the Ugandan operation. Reporting directly to the FM, the Accounts Assistant will communicate any and all profits and losses and notify them of any inconsistencies or shortcomings in revenue.

MAIN TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Accounting and Finance
- Work closely with the Country Director and FM, as well as the Director of Operations and Development in the US, to ensure the following are adhered to at all times: 1) administrative and financial policy guidelines; 2) general operating and project budgets; 3) grant requirements; 4) costs control; and 5) vendor contracts.
- Support day-to-day operations of THRIVE finances, ensuring consistency, accuracy, timeliness and compliance.
- Demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of THRIVE administrative and financial systems, such as records management and QuickBooks, entering necessary information with timeliness and accuracy.
- Provide second-line assurance that all financial documents are scanned and uploaded into Box.
- Support the FM with banking transactions.
- Help to maintain cash ledger, ensuring completeness and accountability of data entry.
- Ensure safety of cash, cheques, and essential financial documents in Gulu office.
- When called, serve as primary contact person for all matters pertaining to finance in the absence of the FM.
- Assist the FM with writing reports on finance and accounting, including the preparation of quarterly and annual workplans, budgets, and cash requisition.
- When called, participate in bidding decision-making processes and procurement/vendor evaluations, offering second-line support to the FM on all aspects of procurement.
- Provide second-line support to the FM with asset management.
- Participate as needed in the annual audit.
- Additional tasks may be assigned by the Executive Director, Country Director, US Operations and Development Director, or FM.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- A recognized university Diploma in bookkeeping, accounting, or a related field. Bachelor’s strongly preferred. Professionally recognized designations such as Certified General Accountant (CGA) or Chartered Accountant (CA) are an asset.
- Ability to work under minimal supervision
- Computer proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel and QuickBooks accounting software
- Ability to work independently and as a team
- Numerical accuracy
- Ability to meet deadlines
- Problem-solving skills
- Extensive experience with accounting procedures and systems
- Organizational abilities and attention to detail
