Purpose of the Role
The Agribusiness/Market Systems Officer will lead interventions in market development, business mentorship, value addition, post-harvest handling, financial linkages, aggregation, productive partnerships, and enterprise development for farmers and youth.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct market assessments and identify viable market opportunities for selected value chains.
- Support farmer groups and youth entrepreneurs to develop business plans and market-oriented production plans.
- Facilitate linkages with off-takers, agro-processors, input suppliers, financial institutions, transporters, aggregation centers, and private sector actors.
- Support training on post-harvest handling, storage, value addition, marketing, financial literacy, and business development services.
- Promote bulk marketing, collective bargaining, aggregation, and quality improvement.
- Support development of common user facilities, value addition centers, storage facilities, or aggregation hubs where applicable.
- Facilitate apprenticeship and youth skilling opportunities in value addition, logistics, agri-transport, clean energy technologies, and service provision.
- Track market access, sales volumes, income changes, business performance, and job creation outcomes.
Minimum Qualifications and Experience.
- Degree in Agribusiness, Agricultural Economics, Business Administration, Value Chain Development, Rural Development, or related field.
- At least 5 years of experience in value chain development, market systems, agribusiness, enterprise development, or private sector engagement.
- Demonstrated experience linking smallholder farmers to markets, finance, and private sector actors.
- Experience with youth enterprise development, post-harvest handling, value addition, or common user facilities.
- Experience in refugee livelihoods or host community economic inclusion is an added advantage.
