Job Description

Context
Since the inception of IOM in 1951, Movement Operations have been and continue to be a fundamental pillar of the Organization’s work. The organized movement of persons in need of international migration assistance is a primary mandate of the Organization and a cornerstone of IOM’s operations. This mandate has resulted in the international transport of more than 15 million migrants and refugees worldwide. Movement Operations Units in various IOM Country Offices, coordinated under the Division of Resettlement and Movement Management (RMM) in the Department of Operations and Emergencies (DOE) at IOM’s Geneva Headquarters (HQ), are responsible for all aspects of travel for migrants and refugees under IOM’s auspices, in accordance with the various framework agreements with resettlement and receiving Governments and partners across the spectrum of the Organization's programmes.
Under the overall supervision of the supervision of the Supply Chain Officer and under the direct supervision of the National Supply Chain Officer, the incumbent will be responsible for driving IOM buses transporting the refugees from the camps to the capital and vice versa and inside the city in the framework of the resettlement multi-year program. The incumbent will be also responsible for driving IOM vehicles to transport IOM staff and goods authorized by IOM, from one destination to another in a timely, safe and cost-effective manner.
Responsibilities
- Drive IOM buses/vehicle(s) and execute the tasks as assigned.
- Understand and implement the IOM Transit Center Standard Operating Procedures in day-to-day work.
- Participate in the shift at the Transit center and produce a report at the end of each shift.
- Facilitate beneficiaries’ access to food and accommodation as required.
- Ensure the safety of passengers, cargo and bus/vehicle and observe traffic rules and road discipline.
- Manage the day-to-day maintenance of the assigned bus or vehicle to ensure roadworthiness. This includes daily check of tires, brakes, engine oil, fan belt, etc.
- Make weekly reports on bus or vehicle status and share with the Operations Officer. Report promptly any defects or malfunctioning of the bus/vehicle that require immediate attention. Assist in planning and control of (regular) services.
- Ensure that in case of accident, supervisors are informed, and a police report is obtained
- Maintain the bus or vehicle road logbook at all times.
- Check daily status and availability of spares, jack and tools.
- Refuel the bus or vehicle as required.
- Ensure cleanliness of the bus/vehicle at all times.
- Ensure that the IOM bus/vehicle is only used for official/authorized business.
- Ensure that the keys are returned for safeguarding at the end of the shift or handed over to the next driver at the transit center.
- Be prepared and willing to work during weekends and after hours as requested.
- Perform such other duties as may be assigned.
Qualifications
Education
- Completed secondary [high school] education required and three years of relevant working experience;
- Valid Driving License (DE class)
- Certificate of competence from Uganda Driver Licensing System (UDLS)
