Co-management concession to operate the Murchison Student Centre in the Community Conservancy in Nwoya District.

The African Wildlife Foundation (AWF) is a global conservation organization protecting wildlife and their habitats as essential parts of a modern and prosperous Africa. In Uganda, AWF articulates vision-led conservation, focusing on providing solutions that create opportunity for people- not at the expense of wildlife and their habitats, but because of them.

AWF has worked with the local communities in promoting their resilience, addressing human-wildlife conflicts, supporting communities with enterprises to offset conservation costs, and equipping them with skills in conservation and livelihood improvement. In the Murchison Landscape, AWF is assisting the stakeholders north of the Murchison Falls National Park to strengthen community-based conservation management through operationalization of the Community Conservancy in Nwoya District.

AWF in partnership with Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA), on behalf of the Community Conservancy, a community of landowners and wildlife affected persons residing in Nwoya District, is seeking a private sector partner to manage and operate the Murchison Student Center (“Center” or “Facility”), situated north of Murchison Falls National Park in Nwoya District.

Since the 1990s, one of the core pillars of the AWF/UWA partnership, has been the integration of conservation and livelihoods, recognizing conservation is a key driver of progress, especially for communities living alongside wildlife. Thus, this facility aims to boost conservation while providing livelihood opportunities to the Murchison community through student visitor services.

This is a call for an experienced and entrepreneurial hospitality operator to enter into a concession agreement to operate the center.
