Position: Chief People & Culture Officer

Reports to: Chief Executive Officer

Job purpose:

Responsible for the smooth and profitable operation of the department as well as provide consultation to management on strategic staffing plans, compensation, benefits, training and development, budget, and labor relations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop organization strategies by identifying and researching human resources issues, contributing information, analysis, and recommendations to organization strategic thinking and direction, establishing human resources objectives in line with organizational objectives.
  • Implement People & Culture strategies by establishing department accountabilities, including talent acquisition, staffing, employment processing, compensation, health and welfare benefits, training and development, records management, safety and health, succession planning, employee relations and retention, compliance and labor relations.
  • Manage People & Culture operations by recruiting, selecting, orienting, training, coaching, counseling, and disciplining staff, planning, monitoring, appraising, and reviewing staff job contributions, maintaining compensation; determining production, productivity, quality, and customer-service strategies, designing systems, accumulating resources, resolving problems, implementing change.
  • Develop People & Culture operations financial strategies by estimating, forecasting, and anticipating requirements, trends, and variances, aligning monetary resources, developing action plans; measuring and analyzing results; initiating corrective actions; minimizing the impact of variances.
  • Accomplish special project results by identifying and clarifying issues and priorities, communicating and coordinating requirements, expediting fulfillment, evaluating milestone accomplishments, evaluating optional courses of action, changing assumptions and direction.
  • Guide management and employee actions by researching, developing, writing, and updating policies, procedures, methods, and guidelines; communicating and enforcing organization values.
  • Ensure compliance with legal requirements by studying existing and new ILO and local labor legislation, anticipating legislation, enforcing adherence to requirements, advising management on needed actions.
  • Update job knowledge by participating in conferences and educational opportunities, reading professional publications, maintaining personal networks, participating in professional organizations.
  • Enhance department and organization reputation by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests, exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishments.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Masters / Bachelor’s degree in human resources, Psychology, social sciences or a related field.
  • Post Graduate Diploma in Human Resource Management is an added advantage.
  • A minimum of 12 years relevant work experience & 5 of which should have been at senior management level in a financial or similar services institution.
  • A minimum of 7 years of experience in human resource management.
  • Experience in the banking industry is a distinct advantage.

  • Strong communication Skills – Communicates logically, clearly and concisely both verbally and in writing.

  • Coaching and Mentoring – Creates an environment which fosters self-development and growth through being accessible and providing guidance, constructive feedback and coaching to others.
