Overview
Africa Innovations Institute (AfrII) is seeking a skilled GC Technician to support analytical testing in our laboratory. The role involves operating and maintaining Gas Chromatograph systems to deliver accurate, timely, and reliable results for research, quality control, and food/environmental safety programs.

Gas Chromatograph (GC) Technician
Duty Station
Bukoto, Kampala
Reports to
Greenhouse Gas Expert /Laboratory Manager
Key Responsibilities
- Operate GC systems (GC-FID, GC-ECD, GC-MS where applicable) for routine sample analysis.
- Prepare samples, run standards, perform calibrations, and ensure QC compliance.
- Interpret chromatograms and prepare analytical reports.
- Conduct routine maintenance (septa, liners, columns, leak checks).
- Troubleshoot instrument issues and maintain performance logs.
- Follow GLP and ISO 17025 procedures for documentation and safety.
- Support procurement of GC consumables and assist in training junior staff.
Qualifications
- Diploma or Bachelor’s in Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry, Biochemistry, Environmental Science, or related field.
- Hands-on experience with GC operation (e.g. SRI GHG GC, Agilent, Shimadzu, Thermo).
- Familiarity with chromatographic software e.g. ChemStation, OpenLab, LabSolutions, but knowledge of PeakSimple is added advantage
- At least 1–3 years laboratory experience with Gas analysis experience is an added advantage.

- High attention to detail and data integrity.
- Ability to work independently and meet deadlines.
- Good communication and documentation skills.
