About StrongMinds

StrongMinds is an award-winning nonprofit delivering community-led mental health programmes to hundreds of thousands of clients across Uganda, Zambia, and beyond. We provide proven group therapy to women, adolescents, refugees, and other marginalised populations — and we're growing fast. Data and technology are central to everything we do.

The Opportunity

We are seeking an experienced Global Solutions Architect to serve as our senior engineering and systems architecture lead. Working closely with the Director of Digital Transformation, you will own the design, implementation, and continuous improvement of our global data and systems architecture, building the technical foundation that enables StrongMinds to scale its mission across multiple countries.

This is a chance for a technically excellent, mission-aligned professional to shape how a fast-growing global organisation collects, manages, and uses data, and to contribute to sectoral innovation at the leading edge of digital mental health and Tech/AI for Good.

Key Responsibilities

  • Global Data Architecture: Design and implement a data warehouse and federated collection architecture; develop a unified global data model; lead integration design across internal systems and vendor partnerships.
  • Field Data Systems: Lead migration from paper, Excel, and fragmented platforms (CommCare, KoboToolbox) onto a unified, field-optimised data collection system with near-real-time capture and legacy data provisions.
  • BI & Analytics: Design and build a global Business Intelligence stack (primarily open-source), enabling self-serve reporting across all divisions.
  • Technical Governance, Security & Compliance: Serve as Global Systems Administrator; lead on security, data privacy, and data residency compliance; ensure 99.9% uptime and adherence to local and international data protection regulations.
  • Automation & AI: Support responsible prototyping and integration of automation and AI/ML tools into data workflows, in line with StrongMinds' AI governance framework.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Data Science, or related field
  • 6+ years in software engineering, systems architecture, or technical leadership
  • Strong experience with end-to-end data pipelines, data models, and warehouse architecture
  • Advanced proficiency in SQL, Python, and ETL/automation workflows
  • Hands-on experience with CommCare, KoboToolbox, and/or DHIS2
  • Proven track record modernising legacy/fragmented systems into integrated digital ecosystems
  • Solid knowledge of systems administration, networking, and cybersecurity
  • Experience with data privacy, security, and compliance by design
  • Experience deploying digital solutions in LMIC or resource-constrained environments

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in a relevant field
  • API integration and interoperable architecture experience
  • Federated/tiered architecture for multi-jurisdiction data residency
  • Offline-first solutions in low-connectivity environments
  • AI/ML application in operational or programme settings
  • Experience with government systems and Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI)

What We Offer

  • Remote, flexible, async work culture with a fast-paced global team
  • Competitive salary with benefits and room to grow
  • Real ownership of transformative technology at a globally recognised organisation
  • A collaborative, high-performing environment committed to impact at scale
  • Genuine influence over StrongMinds' technical direction and digital future
