Position Overview

The Laboratory Assistant will support the health center's diagnostic operations, conducting routine laboratory tests, managing specimens, and maintaining laboratory equipment. A key component of this role involves community-level health outreach or specimen transport, requiring the ability to safely operate a motorcycle.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform routine diagnostic tests and laboratory examinations accurately in line with health center standards.
  • Collect, process, and prepare patient specimens safely while adhering to bio-safety and hygiene guidelines.
  • Ride a motorcycle to support field-level specimen transport, outreach drives, or community health activities.
  • Keep laboratory equipment clean, calibrated, and operational; maintain inventory logs for lab reagents and supplies.
  • Communicate laboratory procedures and results clearly and empathetically to patients in fluent Luganda.

Minimum Requirements & Qualifications

  • At least one (1) year of active practical experience as a Laboratory Assistant in a clinical environment.
  • Valid and up-to-date professional practice license.
  • Must know how to ride a motorcycle (essential requirement).
  • Fluency in Luganda (spoken and understood) for effective patient communication.
