Background
Watoto Church and Childcare Ministries has experienced exponential growth in the past couple of years, composed of multiple Celebration Centres (Campuses) and diverse Community care initiatives that include Childcare, Community and Neighborhood, Education and FM Radio, amongst others. In all of this, Watoto remains a local church, committed to celebrating Christ and caring for community. Watoto is seeking to recruit a Laboratory Technician to support and enhance an environment that caters for 21st-century science-based learning.
Key Duties and Responsibilities (but not limited to)
- Create and uphold a laboratory system that organises, tracks and monitors usage of the facility and resources and reports on it.
- Prepare for practical lessons and exams to ensure that specimens, reagents and apparatus needed are availed to the teachers when needed.
- Ensure laboratory stock management, quality assurance, sanitisation and safety of the teachers and learners in the laboratory.
- Ensure the safety of the teachers and students while in the laboratory.
- Design standard operating procedures for reagent standardisation from stock solutions.
- Work with the science teachers and heads of departments to draw a laboratory usage timetable to avoid clashes
- Demonstrate a culture of innovation and creativity.
- Support science clubs in accessing, gathering and organising information.
- Liaise with staff to use the laboratory for a variety of educational purposes, theme weeks, and project displays.
- Organise in-house displays of new laboratory acquisitions and supplier exhibitions.
- Plan, budget, requisition and recommend for the acquisition of materials and equipment which are appropriate for the curriculum, learners and teachers.
- Ensure proper and timely stock taking of reagents and equipment in the laboratory on a termly basis.
- Participate in the teaching of students, where appropriate and as may be assigned by the head of the science department.
- Participating in the preparation of science exhibitions and projects is needed.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience
- The applicant for the Laboratory Technician position should have a diploma in Medical Laboratory with an interest in microbiology. A degree in Laboratory Science shall be an added advantage.
- At least one (1) year of experience in laboratory management.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills. High degree of flexibility and initiative.
- Commitment to work within a team environment and ability to work under minimal supervision
