Job Purpose:
The job holder will be responsible for the provision of technical support in the delivery of legal advisory services , implementation of the legislative drafting strategy of the Authority and conducting research for the development of laws aimed at ensuring the capital market in Uganda is safe, efficient and vibrant.
Key Responsibilities/Deliverables
1. Undertake legal research to support the review and development of capital markets laws.
2. Prepare contracts and other legal documents to protect the interests of the CMA.
3. Organize stakeholder engagements.
4. Formulate and draft legislation, guidelines, circulars and notices on behalf of the Authority.
5. Represent the CMA as part of the legal team during the course of litigation and prosecution.
6. Represent CMA in taskforces, working groups and other forums.
Person Specifications
Education/Qualifications
1. An honors Bachelor’s degree in Law from a recognized institution/ University
2. A post-graduate diploma in legal practice is required.
Experience and Skills
- At least 03 years post qualification in-house legal practice experience in an organization within the financial services industry; or in private practice
- Demonstrable experience in legislative drafting and review
- Good analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Good legal drafting skills.
- Strong communication and presentation skills. Ability to work within and with teams
Business behavior and personal attributes
- Ability to handle a diverse workload and multiple simultaneous activities under minimum supervision.
- Self-motivated and results driven with ability to deliver effectively under pressure.
- Ability to work within and with teams.
- Strong ability to persuade all levels of management and external stakeholders.
- Desire and ability to learn
