Position Overview:
We are seeking a results-driven Health & Safety Department Manager to lead a unique dual-purpose unit. Unlike traditional safety roles, our department is a profit-generating service hub. You will be responsible for driving business development (securing B2B contracts) while ensuring operational excellence in the delivery of clinical health services and safety product/consulting solutions.
You will manage a diverse portfolio including onsite doctors, emergency medevac/ambulance logistics, corporate wellness programs, PPE sales, OHS consultancy, and accredited training.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and manage the department budget; achieve monthly/quarterly revenue targets for PPE sales, consultancy man-hours, and training seat utilization.
- Identify and tender for contracts within the extractive industries (mining, oil & gas, quarrying) and large-scale corporate manufacturing.
- Upsell integrated packages (e.g., onsite clinic + H&S training + PPE supply) to existing corporate clients.
- Track regulatory changes in extractive sectors (e.g., new mining safety regulations) to pivot service offerings ahead of competitors.
- Oversee the deployment of onsite doctors, paramedics, and nurses to remote/extractive sites.
- Ensure ambulance fleet readiness and emergency response times meet client SLAs.
- Supervise wellness programs (biometric screenings, mental health first aid, chronic disease management) to reduce corporate client absenteeism.
- Manage PPE inventory turnover; ensure stock availability for high-demand items
- Lead OHS consultancy audits for corporate clients.
- Ensure timely delivery of accredited courses
- Recruit, certify, and schedule doctors, safety officers, and trainers across multiple client locations.
- Ensure all medical licenses, training accreditations, and product certifications current.
- Implement an ERP or service-dispatch system to track job completion (ambulance calls, consultancy reports) versus invoicing.
Qualifications
Minimum:
- Bachelor’s degree in Medicine or Nursing with
- 3+ years in senior management, including a commercial/BD role (managing tenders, client contracts, or sales targets).
Added advantage:
- MBA or Sales/Marketing certificate.
- Experience managing a remote medical clinic or ambulance service.
- Existing network of corporate HSE directors in the extractive sector.
- Deep familiarity with extractive industry and corporate engagements
