JOB SUMMARY:

The Physics and Mathematics Teacher plays a vital role in advancing the spiritual, academic, and personal development of students while contributing actively to the mission and life of Lead 4 Africa School Uganda Limited. The teacher is responsible for delivering high-quality instruction in Physics and Mathematics through effective curriculum planning, engaging teaching methodologies, practical laboratory experiences, problem-solving activities, and continuous assessment practices that promote student achievement. The role includes providing pastoral support and mentorship, maintaining accurate academic records, participating in co-curricular activities, and fostering a safe, disciplined, and inclusive learning environment grounded in Christian values. The teacher promotes scientific inquiry, critical thinking, innovation, and holistic student development.

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Spiritual Leadership and Christian Formation

• Model Christian values, integrity, professionalism, and servant leadership in all interactions and responsibilities.
• Embody a high standard of personal Christian conduct through lifestyle and professional relationships.
• Participate actively in school worship programmes, Christian fellowships, devotions, and spiritual formation activities.
• Lead or support student devotions, assemblies, and other spiritual growth initiatives as assigned.
• Promote and uphold the school's culture of excellence, integrity, accountability, and transparency.

2. Teaching, Learning, and Assessment

• Develop comprehensive schemes of work, lesson plans, practical activities, and instructional materials aligned with the prescribed curriculum and departmental guidelines.
• Deliver engaging, learner-centered lessons that promote critical thinking, problem-solving, scientific inquiry, and mastery of Physics and Mathematics content.
• Utilize diverse instructional strategies to accommodate different learning styles and abilities.
• Design, administer, mark, and moderate assessments in accordance with school policies and provide timely, constructive feedback to students.
• Monitor and evaluate student progress, identify learning gaps, and implement appropriate intervention and remedial support programmes.
• Plan, supervise, and assess practical laboratory activities and experiments while ensuring compliance with laboratory safety procedures and standards.
• Maintain current subject knowledge and integrate curriculum updates, scientific developments, and relevant learning resources into teaching practice.
• Promote high academic standards and encourage students to achieve their full potential.
• Contribute to departmental planning, curriculum review, and academic improvement initiatives.

3. Student Development, Pastoral Care, and Discipline

• Create and maintain a positive, respectful, safe, and inclusive classroom environment conducive to learning.
• Promote positive student behaviour and apply fair, consistent, and effective classroom management strategies.
• Provide pastoral care, guidance, and mentorship to students, supporting their academic, social, emotional, and spiritual development.
• Build positive relationships with students and serve as a trusted and approachable role model.
• Participate in student orientation, integration, and transition programmes.
• Identify student welfare concerns and refer cases requiring specialized support through the appropriate safeguarding and student support structures.
• Support students in goal setting, leadership development, and character formation.

4. Laboratory and Resource Management

• Ensure the safe, responsible, and effective use of laboratory equipment, materials, chemicals, and facilities.
• Maintain accurate records of laboratory resources and report equipment needs, repairs, replacements, or safety concerns promptly.
• Promote safe laboratory practices and ensure students comply with established health and safety procedures.
• Support the development, organization, and continuous improvement of Science laboratories and learning resources.
• Ensure practical lessons are properly planned, supervised, and documented.

5. Administration and School Operations

• Maintain accurate, up-to-date, and confidential records of student attendance, assessment results, academic progress, practical work, and behavioural concerns.
• Prepare and submit reports, grades, lesson documentation, laboratory records, and other required records within established timelines.
• Adhere to all school policies, procedures, laboratory regulations, and professional standards.
• Communicate effectively and professionally with parents and guardians regarding student progress, behaviour, and welfare.
• Participate actively in departmental meetings, staff meetings, committees, and school improvement initiatives.
• Contribute to curriculum committees, academic committees, staff development programmes, and other assigned school initiatives.
• Attend official school functions, professional meetings, workshops, seminars, and other assigned activities.

6. Co-Curricular and Community Engagement

• Participate actively in co-curricular programmes, science clubs, mathematics clubs, STEM initiatives, sports, leadership activities, and student enrichment programmes.
• Organize and support science fairs, exhibitions, academic competitions, innovation projects, educational trips, and community outreach activities.
• Encourage student participation in academic and co-curricular activities that develop leadership, creativity, and problem-solving skills.
• Contribute positively to the wider life, culture, and reputation of the school.

7. Professional Development

• Engage in continuous professional learning to strengthen subject knowledge, pedagogy, classroom practice, laboratory instruction, and educational leadership skills.

QUALIFICATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Essential Requirements:

• Bachelor of Science with Education (BSc Ed.) or a relevant Bachelor of Science degree with a Postgraduate Diploma in Education.
• Specialization in Physics and/or Mathematics.
• Minimum of two (2) years' teaching experience in a secondary school or similar educational setting.
• Demonstrated competence in practical laboratory instruction and classroom teaching.
• A mature and practicing Christian who models faith through character and lifestyle.
• Demonstrated commitment to Christian education and holistic student development.
• No criminal record and no history of child abuse, neglect, or misconduct.
• Willingness to work within a school and boarding environment.
