The successful candidate will demonstrate exceptional academic leadership, excellence in pharmaceutical education, research, postgraduate supervision, innovation, scholarly publication and professional pharmacy practice while contributing to the University's vision of becoming a centre of excellence in pharmaceutical education, research and healthcare innovation.

Responsibilities or duties

The Professor – Pharmacy shall report to the Dean, School of Medicine, Health and Life Sciences and shall:

• Provide strategic academic and professional leadership in pharmacy education, pharmaceutical sciences, research, innovation and community engagement.
• Lead the planning, development and delivery of undergraduate and postgraduate pharmacy programmes.
• Promote excellence in pharmaceutical research, scholarly publication, postgraduate supervision and evidence-based pharmacy practice.
• Mentor academic staff, postgraduate students and researchers while strengthening institutional research capacity.
• Advise the University on matters relating to pharmacy education, pharmaceutical research, medicines regulation and professional pharmacy practice.
• Perform such other duties as may be assigned by the Vice Chancellor, Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic Affairs), Dean or University Council.

Purpose of the Job

To provide strategic leadership in pharmacy education, pharmaceutical research, professional practice, innovation and community engagement; strengthen postgraduate education and supervision; promote excellence in scholarly publication and resource mobilisation; foster national and international collaborations; and contribute to advancing pharmaceutical sciences, healthcare delivery and institutional development.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Provide strategic leadership in the planning, development and continuous improvement of undergraduate and postgraduate pharmacy programmes.
• Lead curriculum design, review and implementation to ensure pharmacy programmes comply with national, regional and international accreditation standards.
• Deliver high-quality lectures, seminars, laboratory practicals, simulation-based learning, clinical pharmacy teaching and postgraduate instruction.
• Coordinate and supervise experiential learning, industrial training and clinical education in affiliated hospitals, pharmaceutical industries and regulatory institutions.
• Promote evidence-based pharmaceutical care, medication safety, patient-centred practice and ethical professional conduct.
• Lead high-quality research in pharmaceutical sciences, clinical pharmacy, pharmacology, pharmaceutics, pharmaceutical chemistry, pharmacognosy, pharmacoeconomics and related disciplines.
• Publish scholarly work in internationally recognised peer-reviewed journals and contribute to books, book chapters and other scholarly outputs.
• Supervise undergraduate research projects and postgraduate research at Master's and PhD levels.
• Mentor academic staff, postgraduate students and early-career researchers in teaching, research, publication, grant writing and professional development.
• Lead programme accreditation, curriculum review and institutional quality assurance initiatives.
• Promote digital technologies, simulation-based learning, pharmaceutical innovation and emerging technologies in pharmacy education.
• Secure competitive research funding and coordinate externally funded research projects.
• Establish and strengthen collaborations with hospitals, pharmaceutical manufacturers, research institutions, the National Drug Authority, National Medical Stores, Ministry of Health, professional bodies and international universities.
• Provide leadership in departmental, School and University governance through committees, academic boards and strategic planning.
• Provide expert consultancy and professional advisory services in pharmacy practice, medicines regulation, pharmaceutical policy and healthcare systems strengthening.
• Lead community outreach programmes focusing on rational medicine use, medication safety, antimicrobial stewardship, pharmacovigilance, vaccination programmes and pharmaceutical public health initiatives.
• Promote ethical conduct, professionalism, academic integrity and institutional excellence.
• Prepare strategic academic, research and administrative reports.
• Perform any other duties assigned by the University Management.

Qualifications or requirements

Applicants must:

• Hold an earned PhD or equivalent academic doctorate in Pharmacy, Pharmaceutical Sciences or a relevant pharmacy discipline from a recognised university.
• Demonstrate distinguished academic leadership, excellence in pharmaceutical education, research, postgraduate supervision and scholarly publication.
• Possess an outstanding record of professional service, curriculum development and institutional leadership.

Academic Qualifications and Experience

• An earned PhD or equivalent academic doctorate in Pharmacy, Pharmaceutical Sciences or a recognised pharmacy discipline.
• Bachelor of Pharmacy (BPharm), Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) or an equivalent recognised professional qualification.
• Registration and a valid practising licence with the Pharmacy Council of Uganda or an equivalent recognised professional regulatory authority.
• A minimum of seven (7) years of progressive university teaching, research and professional pharmacy practice, with substantial experience at the rank of Associate Professor or equivalent.
• Demonstrated excellence in undergraduate and postgraduate pharmacy education.
• A distinguished record of at least eight (8) peer-reviewed publications in reputable journals indexed in Scopus, Web of Science or equivalent databases.
• Successfully supervised at least ten (7) postgraduate students to completion, including at least two (2) PhD candidates.

Remuneration: An attractive remuneration package in accordance with King Ceasor University's Terms and Conditions of Service.

Tenure: The Professor – Pharmacy shall hold office in accordance with the University's Terms and Conditions of Service and subject to satisfactory performance.
