Job Summary:

Reporting to the Area Manager, the Project Coordinator leads the strategic implementation of ecosystem restoration and sustainable energy initiatives in the West Nile region. This role drives Nature-Based Solutions (NbS) through collaborative stewardship with refugees, host communities, and government stakeholders to enhance climate resilience & ecosystem restoration. The coordinator ensures high standards of integrity and accountability in resource management, maintaining full compliance with DCA and donor guidelines. By providing supportive supervision and clear direction, She/he foster a productive, mission-driven team dedicated to improving the lives and ecosystems of displacement-affected populations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the planning and execution of ecosystem restoration, Nature-Based Solutions (NbS), and clean energy activities for DCA Uganda in the West Nile Region.
  • Act as the primary anchor point/liaison with the OPM, District Local Governments, and UNHCR regarding DCA Nature-Based Solutions and Sustainable Energy interventions.
  • Ensure the timely and quality delivery of project outputs in accordance with the project logical framework.
  • Identify priority areas for restoration through participatory assessments that empower refugees and host communities.
  • Design and implement strategies for biodiversity conservation and natural resource management that are tailored to the local West Nile context.
  • Assess energy access barriers and implement projects for clean, affordable sources (solar, improved cookstoves) to reduce pressure on forest resources.
  • Train and mentor DCA staff and partners on ecosystem restoration and sustainable & clean energy solutions.
  • Participate in the strategic positioning of DCA within the sector and lead the development of new project proposals and concept notes.
  • Establish collaborative links with the private sector & technology providers (e.g., solar and stove companies) to ensure market-based sustainability.
  • Undertake regular supportive monitoring of local partners, building their capacity in project cycle management and humanitarian principles.
  • Represent DCA in relevant district-level working groups, Inter-Agency coordination meetings, and UNHCR/OPM task forces.
  • Ensure strict adherence to donor guidelines, DCA internal controls, and grant management protocols.
  • Manage the project budget with high levels of transparency, ensuring cost-effectiveness and accountability.
  • Consolidate high-quality progress reports and manage the M&E framework to track long-term impacts on soil health and community resilience.
  • Supervise field staff and build the capacity of local partners to ensure timely implementation of all field activities.

Qualifications, Skills, and Experience:

  • A degree in Environmental Science, Forestry or Agroforestry; and Minimum 7years of relevant experience with at least 3years in managing donor-funded projects. A master’s degree in the above academic qualifications will be an added advantage.
  • Strong technical expertise in agroecology, resilience design, ecosystem restoration, farmer managed natural regeneration (FMNR) and other innovative techniques in both humanitarian and development contexts.
  • Solid understanding of gender equality, social inclusion, and environmental sustainability in programing; as well as Strong commitment to humanitarian values and environmental stewardship.
  • Excellent coordination, analytical, facilitation, and communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Cultural sensitivity and ability to work effectively with diverse teams and communities.
  • Knowledge of the West Nile context & local languages is an added advantage.
  • Ability to multitask, work under pressure, and drive continuous improvement.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills.
