Description
The Danish Refugee Council (DRC) is hiring a Protection Assistant – Distribution responsible for ensuring that Persons of Concern are provided in dignity with Non-Food Items (NFIs) such as apparels, NHM and, any other Core Relief Items (CRI). With Support of the Distribution Officer and the Base Manager, ensure items are prepositioned, distributed and accounted for in a timely manner and in accordance with DRCs Code of Conduct guidelines while serving refugee Community.
Key Duties and Responsibilities: Your main duties and responsibilities will be:
Project development, implementation and reporting
- Prepare distribution lists for Non-Food Items (NFIs)/Core Relief Items (CRIs) with support of the Distribution Officer.
- Work closely with the Distribution Officer or designate staff to mobilize beneficiaries before actual distribution.
- Distribute CRIs and NFIs to the beneficiaries while following UNHCR standard scale and DRC distribution tools.
- Ensure that balances of items are returned back to store immediately after distribution and reconciled while using DRC return way bill.
- Prepare daily and occasional distribution updates for items distributed and share reports with distribution officer or assigned staff for review.
- Ensure proper filling of distribution lists and reports as per the DRC filling system.
- While distributing, the position holder shall identify and refer all protection cases for litigation, support and assistance, which may include child protection, SGBV etc.
- Load, offload distribution items at the distribution sites and or the warehouse.
- Set/prepare and gazette the distribution points.
Coordination and representation
- Represent DRC and actively participate in the local distribution working groups and any other meeting as requested.
- Close co-ordination in project implementation with partners (UN agencies and national/international NGOs), including referrals, community services gap analysis, advocacy.
- Work closely with the other program components to maximize program output and impact.
Staff development and management
- Provide technical and programmatic leadership for the Distribution Volunteers within the operational area.
- Supervise performance of the distribution volunteers on a daily basis
- Conduct field-mentoring through technical back stopping and to train duty bearers
- Uphold DRC’s code of conduct and principles on accountability.
- Support management team to:
- Follow up all DRC / DDG Procedures for Security, Finance, Logistics, HR and Administration.
- Uphold DRC’s international code of conduct and principles of accountability.
- Any other tasks as may be assigned from time to time.
Monitoring and Evaluation
- Contribute to the daily quality implementation, monitoring and evaluation of projects and interventions.
- Identify, document and disseminate relevant project success, challenges and follow up on implementation of project’s action points
- Assist in participatory needs i.e. post distribution monitoring exercises
- On request, perform any other additional duties assigned by the supervisors in order to allow the organization to function optimally.
- Adhere to DRC’s code of conduct
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
To be successful in this role, you must have a minimum of two (2) years’ experience working with vulnerable communities, basic needs and protection and NFI distribution programming experience, and/or advocacy programs.. Moreover, we also expect the following.
Required
- A Bachelor’s degree in Social sciences, Economics, Business Administration or related field.
- Experience in distribution and protection interventions in line with Refugees operation with PSN assistance.
- Experience of working with UN or Non‐Governmental organizations.
- Proficiency in English (written and spoken) is essential.
- Good communication skills.
- Computer skills.
- Good self-organization and basic management skills.
- Familiarity with Monitoring & Evaluation for UN-funded projects.
Desirable
- Knowledge of the local languages spoken by South Sudanese and Congolese Refugee Communities.
