Job description

The Training Officer will be responsible for designing, coordinating, and delivering training programs that build the capacity of D. light customers, community stakeholders, field agents, and partner organizations across Uganda. The role supports D. light’s mission of providing life-changing solar energy products and services to underserved communities by ensuring that all training interventions are impactful, inclusive, and aligned with organizational and program objectives

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and develop training curricula, facilitator guides, and participant materials for D.light products, services, and programs
  • Facilitate engaging training sessions for customers, field agents, pay-go (PAYG) users, community mobilisers, and partner staff
  • Conduct Training of Trainers (ToT) sessions to build local facilitation capacity and ensure training sustainability at the last mile
  • Conduct training needs assessments (TNAs) for target groups and develop responsive training plans
  • Coordinate and manage training logistics including scheduling, venue, equipment, and participant communication
  • Adapt training approaches and materials for low-literacy audiences, rural communities, and diverse learning levels
  • Monitor and evaluate training effectiveness using pre/post assessments, feedback forms, and field observations
  • Compile timely training reports documenting attendance, outcomes, challenges, and recommendations
  • Collaborate with Sales, Customer Experience, and programs teams to align training with business and field needs
  • Support onboarding and product knowledge training for new field agents
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of training content based on field feedback and product updates

Key Performance Indicators (KPIs):

  • Training delivery vs. plan (number of sessions conducted on schedule)
  • Participant knowledge gain (pre vs. post assessment scores)
  • Training coverage (number of agents, customers, and partners trained per quarter)
  • Timely submission of training reports and documentation
  • Field agent product knowledge and customer satisfaction scores

Requirements

Desired Skills and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in education, Social Sciences, Development Studies, Community Development, or a related field
  • Minimum of 3 years' experience in training facilitation, adult education, or capacity building
  • Demonstrated experience designing training curricula and materials for diverse audiences
  • Experience facilitating Training of Trainers (ToT) programmes
  • Strong facilitation, communication, and presentation skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Experience with PAYG solar, off-grid energy, or technology products is an added advantage
  • Knowledge of participatory learning approaches (PLA, PRA, REFLECT) is an advantage
  • Ability and willingness to travel frequently to field locations across Uganda
