On behalf of our client, we are looking for competent, skilled, and experienced Research Enumerators to work in Karamoja, Uganda.
JOB SUMMARY
We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Field Enumerator to support data collection activities for research projects focusing on migration, climate change, and socio-economic assessments. The ideal candidate will have a background in social sciences or relevant certifications, with proven experience in both quantitative and qualitative data collection methods.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Attend the enumerators’ training workshop.
- Receive enumeration materials and equipment from the MEAL Officer.
- Locate sample respondents.
- Conduct interviews with respondents.
- Record responses as instructed.
- Comply with the requirements necessary for conducting a successful interview.
- Ensure that completed interviews are submitted to the server.
- Ensure that all questionnaires and equipment are accounted for.
- Return all materials (tablets, visibility) used in the survey to the MEAL Officer.
- Act as Interpreter where necessary.
- Perform any other duties assigned.
Requirements
QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
- A bachelor’s degree from a reputable university in a relevant social science field.
- Possession of a certificate in an appropriate course, with data collection experience, and proof of proficiency in English.
- Fluency in Karimojong language.
- Have previous experience working on research projects, notably migration-related research, climate change, and/or socio-economic assessments.
- Strong command of English is a requirement, both oral and written.
ADDED ADVANTAGE
- Have previous experience doing quantitative and Qualitative data collection, notably on a large scale. This includes conducting in-person or phone quantitative surveys with different population groups, in- person focus group discussions and key informant interviews with different research profiles (e.g., enterprises, vulnerable communities, market facilitators, government officials etc.)
- Advanced level knowledge and use of Computer-Assisted Personal Interviews (CAPI) i.e. use of a tablet, mobile phone or computer to record respondents’ feedback. Experience with KoBo will be an added advantage.
- Ability to flag issues, inconsistencies or incoherences in the coded survey questionnaire in a timely fashion (during the pilot phase for instance).
- Proficiency in other languages, including relevant dialects in the study’s focus countries is considered
- Advanced level in transcribing and translating interviews, consolidated in English as final versions.
- These are usually several pages long and need to be as detailed as possible, including a transcription of the discussion as well as non-verbal cues.
