The Sales and Marketing Assistant – AquaTrust exists to help communities access life-changing household water connections by creating demand, building trust, and turning interest into action.
2. WHY THIS ROLE MATTERS
This role directly influences how families experience our mission. The person in this role will: Increase uptake of household water connections across target communities, drive awareness and demand for AquaTrust services, build trust with households, community leaders, and local stakeholders, improve customer experience throughout the connection journey, strengthen sustainable operation and maintenance systems through responsible customer engagement, deliver measurable growth and lasting community impact. Success in this role means more households connected, healthier families, and stronger community confidence in AquaTrust.

4. YOUR FIRST 90 DAYS
Within your first 90 days, success means: Understanding the AquaTrust service model and target communities deeply; Building strong relationships with local leaders, households, and community structures; Identifying and segmenting high-potential households and institutions; Launching community mobilization and marketing campaigns; Building a strong sales pipeline; Converting qualified leads into household connections; Establishing reliable tracking and reporting systems; Delivering measurable connection growth. Success will be visible and measurable.
5. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
A. Marketing & Demand Creation
● Develop and implement local marketing strategies to promote household water connections.
● Conduct targeted awareness campaigns across communities and promote the benefits of safe, reliable household water access.
● Identify and segment households, institutions, and businesses for targeted engagement.
B. Community Engagement & Mobilization
● Lead community sensitization meetings, barazas, and outreach activities.
● Work closely with local leaders, Water User Committees, and Village Health Teams (VHTs).
● Address misconceptions, objections, and barriers to connection, and build community trust and strengthen local support systems.
C. Sales & Conversion
● Sell household water connections within assigned communities and support households throughout the connection application process.
● Track leads and follow up consistently to drive conversion and coordinate with technical teams to ensure timely installation.
D. Customer Experience & Relationship Management
● Support households from first engagement through successful connection, help improve customer satisfaction and retention.
● Gather and respond to customer feedback, promote responsible water use and timely bill payment.
E. Stakeholder Engagement
Maintain strong relationships with: District Water Offices; Local Government Leaders; Community Structures; Development Partners; and Local influencers and opinion leaders
F. Data Management & Reporting
● Maintain accurate records of outreach, leads, and completed connections.
● Track sales performance and customer trends. Use data to improve performance and strategy.
● Prepare timely weekly and monthly reports.
6. WHAT SUCCESS LOOKS LIKE (YOUR SCOREBOARD)
Success in this role means: Consistent monthly growth in household water connections; Strong lead-to-connection conversion rates; Increased community awareness and demand; High customer satisfaction levels; Strong stakeholder trust and relationships; Timely and accurate reporting; and Measurable contribution to AquaTrust growth.
7. THE CHALLENGE
This role is demanding. It requires someone who can thrive in complexity without avoiding it. It demands: Frequent field travel, strong resilience, high energy, emotional maturity, sales discipline, community credibility, and courage to hear “no” and keep going.
8. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor’s Degree in: Marketing; Business Administration; Social Sciences; Community Development or related field
9. EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
Minimum 2–3 years relevant professional experience in: Sales; Marketing; Community engagement; Customer relationship management; and Rural/community-based programs. Preferred:
● Experience in WASH programming
● Experience in rural development projects
● Familiarity with the DQ Sales approach developed by Whitten & Roy Partnership.
10. MANDATORY REQUIREMENTS
Applicants must have:
● Strong field-based work experience and proven sales and persuasion skills
● Strong communication and community mobilization ability
● Data collection and reporting skills
● Ability to work independently and fluency in local languages is an added advantage
● Willingness to travel frequently within project areas.
● Must be prepared to work beyond Luwero District and support AquaTrust operations in other districts where household connection growth support is needed.
