The Senior Manager: Business Payments & Strategic Partnerships is accountable for defining, owning and executing MTN Mobile Money’s end-to-end business payments strategy, with a strong focus on B2B and B2G use cases, enterprise solutions, platform-led growth and API-enabled ecosystems.

The role is responsible for growing the B2B payments ecosystem through MoMo for Business, strategic partnerships, remittance partnerships and interoperability, while building strong banking relationships that expand wallet-to-bank and bank-to-wallet capabilities. It drives the design, delivery and scaling of digital payment products, open-loop and closed-loop solutions and interoperable payment capabilities to grow enterprise transaction volumes and accelerate sustainable revenue growth.

The role drives adoption of MoMo for Business across SMEs, corporates, FMCGs, distributors, government, education, healthcare, NGOs and other institutions, delivering sustainable transaction growth and new revenue streams.

Responsibilities or duties

MoMo for Business & Enterprise Solutions

  • Define and execute the business payments strategy aligned to MTN Fintech and OpCo growth objectives.
  • Hold end-to-end ownership of B2B payments, from proposition design through delivery, adoption and performance.
  • Own the roadmap for enterprise payment solutions, covering collections, disbursements, supplier payments, payroll, bulk payments, enterprise APIs and embedded payments.
  • Drive adoption of MoMo for Business across enterprises, SMEs, corporates, FMCGs and their distributor value chains, government, education, healthcare, NGOs and other institutions.
  • Develop industry-specific propositions for enterprise customers and large value chains, tailored to sector payment flows and reconciliation needs.
  • Lead the development of corporate and government payment solutions, including collections, disbursements and reconciliation services.
  • Develop and implement a value-added services strategy (e.g. reconciliation tools, data-driven insights, bundled services) to drive enterprise customer retention.
  • Ensure MTN covers the widest possible set of business payment use cases, while maintaining simplicity, scalability and regulatory compliance.

Strategic Partnerships- Remittance & Interoperability

  • Own the partnership strategy across remittances and interoperability.
  • Identify, negotiate and manage strategic partnerships with banks, fintechs, card schemes, payment switches, aggregators and international remittance providers.
  • Lead complex commercial negotiations with strategic partners, aggregators and schemes, and structure deals that protect MTN’s economics.
  • Develop commercial models that maximise revenue, transaction growth and new revenue generation across the partner portfolio.
  • Lead executive governance and performance reviews with strategic partners, including partner due diligence, onboarding and ongoing performance management.
  • Drive MTN’s transition into open-loop and interoperable payment ecosystems, including switches, schemes and third-party wallets.

Banking engagements

  • Drive wallet-to-bank and bank-to-wallet interoperability, account linking and real-time transfers.
  • Lead open banking initiatives, including API-based account access, data sharing and embedded finance partnerships.
  • Develop joint propositions with banks, including collections, disbursements, virtual accounts and embedded finance.
  • Provide industry representation for MTN Mobile Money in banking, payments and interoperability forums, working groups and industry bodies

API, Platform & Technical Leadership

  • Own the business payments platform vision, ensuring products are designed with API-first, modular and scalable architectures.
  • Work closely with Delivery and Technology teams to:
    • Define payment APIs, SDKs and integration standards for enterprises, aggregators, banks and partners.
    • Support onboarding of enterprises and partners via self-serve and assisted API integrations.
    • Ensure alignment with security, authentication, tokenization and data-privacy standards.
    • Translate business requirements into clear functional and technical specifications for development teams.
    • Drive adoption of data, analytics and reporting capabilities across enterprise and payment products.
    • Ensure high availability, resilience and performance of payment solutions through robust SLAs, monitoring and incident management frameworks.

Governance, Risk & Regulatory Alignment

  • Ensure all payment products and partner integrations comply with:
    • Regulatory, licensing and AML/CFT requirements.
    • Internal risk, governance and control frameworks.
  • Oversee partner due diligence, onboarding and ongoing performance management.
  • Support changes to financial services and payments licensing models where greater MTN control or value capture is required.
  • Identify, document and mitigate operational, technical and commercial risks across the business payments ecosystem.

Performance, Reporting & Continuous Improvement

  • Define and track KPIs and SLAs covering enterprise revenue, interoperability volumes, partnership performance, B2B adoption, availability, quality of service and customer experience.
  • Drive a culture of continuous improvement, using data and insights to optimize products, processes and customer journeys.
  • Produce structured, executive-level reporting on strategy execution, product performance, partner performance and financial outcomes.

Qualifications or requirements (e.g., education, skills)

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Engineering, Statistics, Economics, Accounting, or a related field.
  • Post-graduate qualification (MBA, MSc, or equivalent) is an advantage.

Experience needed

  • 8+ years’ experience in payments, fintech, mobile money, banking or digital platforms, with at least 3 years in a senior management role.
  • Proven experience delivering B2B/B2G payment solutions, enterprise products or platform-based products.
  • Demonstrated success building and managing strategic partnerships with banks, fintechs, schemes, switches or remittance providers.
  • Hands-on exposure to APIs, integrations, payment platforms and digital ecosystems.
  • Experience working in multinational or group environments, with a strong understanding of emerging markets.
