Job Summary:
TASLAF Advocates is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Tax Associate to join its growing Tax Practice and support the delivery of high-quality tax advisory and compliance services to a diverse client portfolio. The successful candidate will play a key role in managing tax engagements, advising clients on complex tax matters, liaising with the Uganda Revenue Authority, and supporting business development initiatives, while contributing to innovative and practical tax solutions for clients operating across various sectors.
Key Responsibilities
The Senior Tax Associate will be responsible for the following:
- Supporting the delivery of designated tax engagements and projects, and managing implementation of agreed client deliverables;
- Assisting in preparation of proposals, tenders, and client presentations;
- Generating innovative solutions on projects/engagements in collaboration with team members to enhance/renew service o!erings to clients;
- Developing and maintaining up-to-date knowledge of current tax matters across the tax function;
- Delivering client services in accordance with the relevant "rm’s professional standards, internal policies, and ethical principles;
- Conducting tax risk and opportunity reviews for clients;
- Preparing tax opinions and providing written and verbal tax advisory services;
- Building and maintaining relationships with the clients and the Uganda Revenue Authority;
- Liaising with Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) on various tax matters, including audits and assessments’
- Assisting clients to resolve URA audits and tax disputes;
- Preparing objections and appeals to URA assessments;
- Preparing tax publications, client alerts, and articles on relevant tax matters;
- Actively build business relationships that generate opportunities for the !rm;
- Involvement in di"erent tax initiatives and tasks that are run from time to time in the department; and,
- Perform any other duties as may be assigned to you from time to time.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Taxation, Accounting, Finance, Economics, or a related !eld with a minimum of Second-Class Upper Division from a recognized university;
- Professional quali!cation such as CPA, ACCA, Postgraduate Diploma in Tax (PGD Tax), Advanced Diploma in International Taxation (ADIT), or Certi!ed Tax Advisor (CTA) is required.
- Minimum of 3–5 years’ relevant experience in tax preferably in a professional services !rm, tax revenue authority or corporate environment;
- Technical expertise in Tax matters;
- Good knowledge of international and national taxation principles;
- Must be a Ugandan citizen or legally eligible to work in Uganda.
Technical Competencies
- Strong tax compliance and advisory skills
- Excellent !nancial reporting and reconciliation skills
- Strong business acumen and commercial awareness
- High focus on quality control and risk management
- Advanced computer skills, especially in accounting so#ware and Microso# Excel
- Excellent report writing skills.
Behavioural Competencies
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Strong leadership and supervisory ability
- High level of integrity and professionalism
- Strong organisational and time management skills
- Strong client service orientation
- Ability to work under pressure and meet strict deadlines
