Women In Technology Uganda (WITU), grounded in Gender Equality and empowerment of
women is committed to making its contribution to narrowing the gender technological gap and
economic growth for women youth in Africa, through both digital and entrepreneurial skills
development and innovation by unlocking opportunities for women youth through quality skills
training and mentorship.
Under its Digital Job Center flagship initiative of the Digital Economy Program, WITU aims to
empower young women with the knowledge and tools necessary to thrive in the digital
economy focusing on high-demand digital skills such as basic ICT, graphic design, and digital
marketing, including social media management, data analytics, digital marketing, software
development, and more. The goal is to bridge the gap between education and employment by
preparing young women to meet dynamic industry tech needs and connecting them with
Potential employers. The program addresses the gap for qualified female digital professionals
while simultaneously tackling the digital gender gap by providing targeted training and career
support to women aged 18-35 years.
In partnership with the 10X Digital Economy Program: Elevating Young Women for Dignified
Work in the Digital Economy, WITU has expanded her reach of the Digital Job Center program,
allowing more young women to receive high-quality digital training to increase their
employability within the digital space. This partnership enables WITU to deliver even more value
to employers by providing a more diverse and skilled talent pool.
Within the framework of dignified and fulfilling lives, WITU intends to build the capacities of its
participants to ably seize any employment opportunities at their disposal during and after the
skilling program. By providing mentorship and job readiness skills to its participants, in addition
to digital skilling. WITU therefore, seeks a disability Inclusion officer to address knowledge gaps
and provide mentorship and job readiness skills to its Participants. The primary aim of the
officer will be responsible for mainstreaming disability inclusion across all programs, projects,
and organizational processes to ensures that people with disabilities are effectively included in
all activities, from design to implementation and evaluation.
Description of the required services:
The Disability inclusion officer will among other tasks do the following;
What you will do:

Lead the inclusion Strategic development and planning of WITU’s work on Disability
Inclusion for Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) and monitor a disability inclusion strategy
aligned with organizational goals.

In close collaboration with Planning, Monitoring, Evaluation and Reporting (PMER) Team
and other units, she will contribute to the formulation and implementation of
programmatic and operational strategies and policies ensuring inclusion of Persons with
Disabilities

Formulates joint strategies, work plans and performance indicators in consultation with
other units for integrated and coordinated support to Persons with Disabilities
-
Supports WITU’s internal work planning throughout the full cycle, ensuring that WITU’s
corporate priorities and areas of work comply with disability legislation (e;g UNCPRD
and the Disability Inclusion Act 2022 etc) and regularly monitoring work plan execution.

Initiates, plans, and manages special assignments/projects for Persons with Disabilities
on behalf of the Program Manager and serves as his/her representative at meetings for
planning and coordination purposes representing the views of Persons with Disabilities
where appropriate and needed.

Helps shape the strategic positioning of WITU’s work on gender equality Inclusion
and women’s empowerment:

Work closely with the Program Manager to implement the Country Office’s Strategic
Note 2022-2027, offering advice, practical support and mentorship in line with
disability inclusion for participants to enhance their transition to work Opportunities.

Partnerships & Advocacy, collaborate with Organizations of Persons with Disabilities
(OPDs), government agencies, and advocacy groups to promote inclusion and
influence policy where necessary by ensuring timely, appropriate and accessible
communication, carrying out organization capacity assessment and taking necessary
steps to build their capacities.

Reviews relevant documents ensuring adaptability and accessibility of content by
embedding universal design principles into program planning.

In close collaboration with other Program me units, support regular engagements
with external partners including coordination of work opportunities and preparation
of inclusive briefings, speeches, detailed presentations and other materials as needed
for internal and external use.

Develop and update a repository of key documents (e.g. policies, briefings,
presentations and any other content reports) to ensure timely access to information
by persons with Disabilities and other members of the Program Team.

Support management and communication for the effective implementation of the
Strategic Note 2022-2027:

Actively contributes and seeks to ensure the flow of information and
communication between the Persons with Disabilities and other functions of
the Integrated Office and facilitates the creation of synergies amongst the team
members.

Program Support by providing technical input to ensure all programs/projects
are inclusive of persons with disabilities and their needs from the planning,
design, implementation, evaluation and closure stages.

Support the organization of regular program meetings and strategic events for
internal or external audiences (e.g., planning retreats, high-level meetings,
workshops, amongst others) in line with inclusive program planning principles.

Coordinate special projects and assignments including managing orientation,
onboarding and performance examination sessions for Persons with
Disabilities.

Monitoring, Evaluation, Research & Learning, develop and use inclusive
monitoring and evaluation tools, use accessible formats, timely reporting and
feedback/ dissemination, collect data disaggregated by disability and ensure
lessons learned inform program improvement. Prepare periodic reports on
inclusion efforts, progress, gaps, and recommendations.

Act as first line ‘information filter’, helping manage information flow to and
from the Directorate while Maintaining the highest standard of confidentiality,
discretion, and professional integrity.

Knowledge development and management
-
Capacity Building training and sensitizes all staff, partners, and stakeholders on
disability rights, inclusive practices, and accessibility. Ensure physical and digital
accessibility checks, conduct regular checks of organizational spaces, policies,
communication and feedback tools, and materials to ensure accessibility.

Ensures the continuous collation of lessons learnt and best practices in the
areas of inclusion and particularly disability Inclusion for development.

Participate in knowledge management and practice networks for continued
learning and improved programming regarding disability Inclusion.
b) Who You'll train
The program participants aged 18 - 35 years from underserved communities. Therefore, the
program is not a perfect fit for a traditional lecture and talk approach. You will need to design
and tailor your training approaches with a focus on hands-on experiences and learning. etc.
Qualifications and Experience
Education
-
A bachelor's degree in social work, Disability Studies, Community Development, Human
Rights, or related field. A postgraduate qualification is an added advantage.
Experience
-
At least 3 years of experience working on disability inclusion or a related field.

Knowledge of local and international frameworks on disability social rights (e.g.
UNCRPD, SDGs).

Experience working with persons with disabilities and organizations of person with disabilities (OPDs)
-
Strong facilitation, communication, and advocacy skills.
-
Familiarity with accessibility standards and inclusive communication.
