Position Overview:
Seeking a fundraiser with experience in global education and/or international development to help a highly effective, locally grounded NGO at the frontlines of community capacity-building in Africa continue its growth with diversified private philanthropy and grant-based revenues. The Bududa Learning Center offers best-practice vocational training, women’s microfinance, and holistic child development in Uganda. In this highly flexible position, a part-time Grants Manager will connect the Center to new funding opportunities and integration partnerships to support the next phase of the organization’s growth trajectory.

Description of Bududa Learning Center:
The Bududa Learning Center is a non-governmental organization based in the Bududa District in eastern Uganda, which encompasses three programs: Bududa Vocational Academy (BVA), Children of Bududa (COB) and Women’s Microfinance (WMF). The mission of the BVA is to teach “skills for jobs” to young adults in Bududa in locally viable, high-demand vocations. The courses offered at BVA include Carpentry and Joinery; Block Laying and Concrete Practice; Tailoring, Textile and Design; Nursery Certificate in Early Childhood; Hairdressing; and Automotive Mechanics and Driving. BVA and its highly trained teachers provide vocational skills to enable students to find and create pathways for financial sustainability.
The Children of Bududa is a sponsorship program that provides holistic support for orphans and vulnerable children in the community, that includes academic, social-emotional, medical and financial support.
The Bududa Women’s Development Group is a hub for distribution of loans. The women’s group is conducted in partnership with the international non-profit organization Women’s Microfinance Initiative (WMI).
Together, the Bududa Learning Center’s initiatives build authentic and lasting local capacity for financial security and future success.

Grants Manager and Writer:
1. Research, identify and apply for competitive grants; manage grant proposal calendar and supporting documents
2. Manage, track and report on existing grant activities to funders
3. Manage and track grant budgets, ensure timely receipt of funds
4. Coordinate with North American and Ugandan BLC staff to compile data required and related to grant reporting
5. Work closely with BLC’s North American senior leadership and Board of Trustees to support and execute on fundraising efforts
6. Work with BLC’s North American senior leadership to develop, execute and manage projects related to BLC’s development
7. Assist BLC’s North American senior leadership with communications and grants related tasks as needed
8. Travel to Bududa Learning Center annually is preferred

Collaborates and Consults with:
1. BLC North American’s Executive Director and senior leadership, and Board of Directors, as required and directed
2. BLC’s Uganda Staff, specifically its COO as required and needed

Qualifications & Qualities:

1. Familiarity with global education and/or international development, and funders supporting the same
2. Fundraising and leadership experience for a non-profit organization (experience working with sub-saharan Africa context is preferable)
3. Experience cultivating and stewarding meaningful, productive relationships with donors and prospects
4. Proven track record of successful identification, cultivation, solicitation, and closure of major gifts and grants
5. Demonstrated ability to work with a diverse range of people, including trustees, African and North American staff and leadership
6. Excellent interpersonal, presentation, writing, organizational and communication skills
7. Ability to be a self-starter and initiator, and ability to work effectively, both independently and on a team
8. A high level of energy and ability to work on many tasks/projects
