JOB DETAILS:

OVERALL JOB PURPOSE
Provide a safe environment for patient care, involve self in establishing and maintaining standards of practice as per unit requirements and ensure effective communication within the multidisciplinary team.

JOB REQUIREMENTS AND COMPETENCIES
1. Registered with the Ugandan Nurses and Midwives Council & holds current practicing license for Nursing.
2. Two years of working experience as a nurse (desirable).
3. Effective problem-solving and decision-making skills.
4. Excellent verbal and written skills.
5. Excellent interpersonal skills with all the multi-disciplinary team, patients and relatives.
6. Competent knowledge and skills within general nursing care
7. Cognitive skills as related to the position

JOB DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Perform triage, while considering both physical and psychosocial elements
2. Provide direct patient care to patients admitted for observation, administering treatment as prescribed and taking vital signs.
3. Monitor patient progress and identifies any changes in status, acting on those changes to insure patient comfort and safety.
4. Record and report symptoms and changes in patient’s conditions and vital signs
5. Maintain accurate, detailed reports and records by documenting as per platinum standards
6. Provide patient teaching and families according to a plan of care
7. Directly work with the in-house doctor/specialist and ensure that the patient has been reviewed and new instructions promptly followed.
8. Prepare patients for, and assist with, examinations and treatments.
9. Be extremely careful with the disposal of sharps as per infection control & waste disposal policy
10. Act always in such a manner to promote and safeguard the interest and well-being of patients and clients
11. Be punctual and dependent on assigned/confirmed shifts
12. Must attend unit hand-over
13. Answer patient queries regarding the surgery/or medical condition and prepare them mentally to withstand the rigors of care they will receive
14. Reporting incidents/ accidents/ complaints to the nurse in charge. Be familiar with the incident report form and complete the process
15. Promoting patient privacy and dignity and respecting their culture and beliefs.
16. Perform routine nursing care to assigned patients, always giving a complete and thorough report on patient status at end of shift/assignment
17. Adhering to the protocols, norms, rules and regulations in order to maintain complete medical records.
18. Providing instant care during medical emergencies, like car accidents, burns, heart attacks and strokes, etc.
19. Preparing rooms, and decontaminating equipment and instruments.
20. Preparing patients for examinations.
21. Wear appropriate & accepted uniform as per platinum nurses uniform policy
22. Performs other position-related duties as assigned, depending on the assignment setting
23. Plans and organizes the nursing care and personal hygiene of his/her patients in an isolated
24. Gives treatment at the appropriate time as prescribed by the doctor.
25. Assists patients in taking fluid as required or as prescribed by the doctor.
26. Ensures that the items for admission are in place before each admission.
27. Explains the rules of the Treatment Unit to all new patients, and their relatives.
28. Report orally and in writing all relevant information for patients during and end of the shift
29. Conduct health education and promotion activities with patients, families and communities as Required
30. Provide direct patient care, administering treatment as prescribed and taking vital signs.
31. Monitor patient progress and identifies any changes in status, acting on those changes to insure patient comfort and safety.
32. Record and report any labor/condition abnormalities found in your assessment.
33. Ensure that each patient has a specialist/doctor assessment tool in their file as per HMH guidelines.
34. Provide direct patient care to patients admitted for observation, administering treatment as prescribed and taking vital signs.
35. Monitor patient progress and identifies any changes in status, acting on those changes to insure patient comfort and safety.
36. Record and report symptoms and changes in patient’s conditions and vital signs
37. Maintain accurate, detailed reports and records by documenting as per HMH standards
38. Provide direct patient care to patients admitted for observation, administering treatment as prescribed and taking vital signs.
39. Monitor patient progress and identifies any changes in status, acting on those changes to insure patient comfort and safety.
40. Record and report symptoms and changes in patient’s conditions and vital signs
41. Maintain accurate, detailed reports and records by documenting as per HMH standards
42. Directly work with the in-house doctor/specialist and ensure that the patient has been reviewed and new instructions promptly followed.
43. Be extremely careful with the disposal of sharps as per infection control & waste disposal policy
44. Maintains and documents information necessary for continuity of care and recovery
45. Develops a discharge plan and follow-up care in consultation with the client, family and other health team members
46. Makes appropriate referrals to other health team members

EQUIPMENT AND MACHINERY
1. Be familiar with the inventory processes for equipment on the unit and check equipment as assigned.
2. Be familiar with ISO standards
