JOB DETAILS:
Location: Uganda.
Our client, the largest franchisee of French giant group CARREFOUR owned and operated by MAJID AL FUTTAIM in Uganda is looking for an Accounts Payables Manager. The middle East based group is currently operating more than 375 Carrefour Stores in 17 countries with more than 37000 employees

Job Purpose
Responsible for planning, organizing, and managing the operations and activities of centralized accounts payable function on country level. Supervises employees, monitors activities, and satisfies reporting requirements.

Duties and Responsibilities
1. Assets

• Responsible for the accuracy for all G/L accounts related to the purchases, supplier accounts
• Ensure and control that all reconciliations (e.g., Cheques in Hand, landed cost calculation, provision account, purchases) are done correctly and on time
• Developing, implementing, and maintaining systems, procedures and policies within the assigned function to improve the efficiency of the department in strict adherence with all internal policies and procedures
• Performing the periodical closing process (monthly, quarterly, yearly), ensuring the accuracy of the financial statements and strictly respect the deadlines
• Developing and implementing control mechanisms to avoid any chance of fraud and manipulations in line with group guidelines and policies and monitor their efficiency

2. Humans
• Be a role model and ensure the application of majid al futtaim retail corporate policies and guarantee the implementation of all laws, regulations and cultural practices of the operating countries are followed and respected
• Practices the company values and guarantees the same is respected and followed by the department team members
• Responsible for the performance management of the team
• Setting particular objectives for the direct reports - once a year - which are in-line with the company and department targets
• Carrying out performance analysis with regular feedback to direct reports and ensuring that this is further deployed within the team
• Identify employees with high potential, growth and proposes further development
• Identify and recommend training needs for the team and follow up on the implementation (tna)
• Develop and implement on the job-training for the team
• Promotes and practise communication and participatory management within the team
• Encourage initiatives and creativity within the team

3. Merchandise
• Support management in responding effectively to internal and external auditors, ensure the audit requirements are met and audit findings are addressed and solved timely
• Liaise with Suppliers to resolve complaints and litigations by providing win-win-solutions for both parties in line with internal policies and procedures and applicable laws and regulations.
• Ensure the timely disbursement of payments as per terms of payments and provide necessary information on deductions to suppliers
• Work closely with other Department Heads to understand their concerns and support with best-practise solution proposals
• Provide analyses and reports to all internal stakeholders periodically or on request, support with expertise and advise if and when required
• Assist the store team in the semester inventory control
• Setting guidelines for the Call Centre team in addressing supplier queries in a timely, correct and efficient manner

4. Finance
• Respects the procedures in accordance with the DOA
• Ensures budget compliance during the financial year and proposes corrective measures if and when necessary
• Responsible for the overall cost reduction within the country, proposing and reviewing cost reducing activities and monitoring the effectiveness of the implemented solutions.
• Sets appropriate control mechanism to ensure budget compliance and takes corrective measures when necessary.

Minimum Qualifications/education
• Bachelor degree Finance or Commerce
• CMA qualification or ACCA, CPA additional preferred
• Expertise in Oracle JD Edwards financial accounting software, PERSIS, BO, SNA or similar accounting software
• Good knowledge on IAS/ IFRS and internal policies and procedures
• Excellent communication and presentation skills
• 3+ years in managerial role in one or more of the functional areas in Finance
• 2+years in Retail business
