Community Health Alliance Uganda (CHAU) in partnership with International HIV/AIDS Alliance (IHAA) is implementing the Partnership to Inspire, Transform and Connect the HIV Response (PITCH), the Sexual Reproductive Health Umbrella (SRHU) and other projects.


PITCH is a five-year project (2016 to 2020) focused on strengthening local organisations’ capacity to advocate, generate evidence and develop robust policy solutions for upholding the rights to HIV and sexual and reproductive health services for Key Populations and adolescent girls and young women. https://www.aidsalliance.org/our-priorities/current-projects/724-partnership-to-inspire-transform-and-connect-the-hiv-response-pitch 


Sexual Reproductive Health Umbrella (SRHU) is a five (5) year SRHR and HIV integration grant funded by the Swedish embassy in Uganda. The programme uses umbrella mechanism to contribute to improved SRHR and HIV outcomes for Vulnerable and Key populations. www.chau.cu.ug
CHAU is looking for a dynamic individual to support and coordinate 6 Alliance partners under PITCH and other projects, experienced in advocacy project, international donors’ requirements, an excellent manager and communicator, familiar with small Community Based Organisations and Key Populations and Adolescent Girls and Young Women. The individual will deliver on the overall CHAU advocacy strategy which PITCH and SRHR Umbrella are part.


The Overall responsibility of the Position is coordination of Advocacy initiatives/activities in line with CHAU’s strategic direction and thematic objectives. The person will work with colleagues to pull together evidence across projects foradvocacy.


Specific Responsibilities under PITCH project (70-80% of the time)

  • Coordinate and support the PITCH programme in Uganda
  • Provide technical expertise guidance to strategic advocacy and planning of key initiatives that CHAU and PITCH partners could undertake.
  •  Coordinate all implementing partners and ensure that the capacity of their organisation and their advocacy capacity are strengthen to deliver on the project.
  • Work closely with all partners and IHAA in all aspects of project management and donor repoiting.
  • Support and share timelines with PITCH IPs to develop and submit quarterly and annual work plans, budgets and reports to CHAU and IHAA.
  • Consolidate Alliance PITCH work plans, budgets and reports and share with CHAU, IHAA
  • Alongside M&E officer, support partners for all reporting.
  • Respond to and follow up information requests from IHAA on PITCH and CHAU Advocacy initiatives
  • Alongside the communications specialist, support PITCH and CHAU IPs with development and implementation of the Communication strategy, documentation of programmatic best practices and case studies for dissemination to and utilization by relevant stakeholders
  • Ensure effective communication flow amongst PITCH IPS, in CHAU and outside CHAU
  • Champion and track the use of Advocacy knowledge in CHAU and amongst its PITCH partners/ stakeholders

    Track trends in contemporary advocacy work, document and provide advicel recommendations


Specific Responsibilities under SRHU and other projects

  • Coordinating and finalising of SRHRU advocacy strategy
  • Holding an IP and beneficiaries strategy development sessions to define advocacy priorities-which then the strategy is built around
  • Convene key stakeholders within the health and development sector to get their feedback on the SRHRU advocacy strategy o Validate SRHRU advocacy strategy with IPs/beneficiaries and the Embassy
  • Coordinate implementation with IPs and monitoring progress against advocacy work plan
  • Align SRHRU advocacy strategy with PITCH and CHAU organisational strategy

Education & Certifications

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Development Studies, Public Health, Medicine, Social Sciences or any relevant degree.
  • Master’s degree in social sciences, development Studies, Public Administration, Economic Advocacy and Planning, project planning or management
  • A relevant post graduate qualification will be an added advantage Training in Advocacy Research, Advocacy strategy and Analysis
  • Knowledge in Human Rights Based Approaches
  • A Bachelor’s degree in Development Studies, Public Health, Medicine, Social Sciences or any relevant degree.

Other skills and experience

  • Knowledge and experience of SRHR and HIV/AIDS Advocacy work
  • experience in capacity strengthening of CBOs
  • At least 4 years or more of relevant experience from a reputable organization in a similar role
  • Familiarwith the implementation of HIV/AIDS and reproductive health Programs and Working with KPs and AGYW
  • Current Ugandan policies and laws related to key populations and reproductive health and HIV AIDS.
  • An excellent communicator, manager and amicable and knowledgeable of YPLHIV, AGYW, KP partners issues in Uganda and in the world
  • Project cycle management
  • Networking and stakeholder management and advocacy
  • Documentation, information management, and reporting
