The Infectious Diseases Institute (IDI) is a Ugandan not-for-profit organization whose mission is to strengthen health systems in Africa, with strong emphasis on infectious diseases, through research and capacity development. IDI has six operational areas through which it works to achieve its mission: Prevention, Care and Treatment; Training, Research, Laboratory services (including the CAP-certified IDI Core Lab & Translational Lab), Global Health Security and Health System Strengthening.
Responsibilities or duties
The DR TB Nurse is responsible for providing holistic nursing care to patients through assessment, treatment, health education, and follow-up coordination. This role ensures efficient patient flow, infection control, and accurate documentation while working collaboratively within the healthcare team. The nurse also offers HIV counseling and testing services, manages nursing supplies, and supports overall facility operations to promote quality patient care.
Qualifications or requirements (e.g., education, skills)
A certifiacte in nursing. A diploma in nursing is added advantage
Experience needed
A minimum of one year’s work experience in DR-TB management

Ability to operate independently with limited direct supervision of day-to-day activities
Strong oral and written communication skills are required to
Demonstrated experience in onsite training and QI coaching approaches
Demonstrated capacity in building and maintaining productive working relationships with a wide network of partners and stakeholders
- Provide comprehensive nursing care and treatment to patients, ensuring compliance with established clinical guidelines.
- Conduct patient assessments and monitor patient conditions to inform care decisions.
- Register and triage patients to prioritize care and ensure efficient patient flow within the facility.
- Deliver health education and counseling to patients and their families on disease prevention and health promotion.
- Administer medications and perform nursing procedures as prescribed by healthcare providers.
- Implement infection prevention and control measures to safeguard patients and staff, especially in managing infectious diseases.
- Prepare and maintain nursing work areas and equipment to ensure readiness for patient care.
- Coordinate follow-up care including scheduling appointments, facilitating referrals, and organizing diagnostic investigations.
- Collaborate with the healthcare team in bedside nursing care and clinical procedures.
- Participate in shift handovers, maintain nursing records, and submit daily reports on nursing activities.
- Offer HIV counseling and testing services with confidentiality and empathy.
- Maintain accurate, secure, and confidential patient records.
- Perform additional duties as assigned to support patient care and facility operations.
- Ability to operate independently with limited direct supervision of day-to-day activities
