We work in 3 geographical locations in Uganda. In Northwestern Uganda in the Palorinya refugee settlement and Southwestern Uganda in the Nakivale Settlement and Nyakabande Transit center.
About the Position:
The purpose of this position is to guide and support the implementation of the Integrated Community-Based Management of Acute Malnutrition (CMAM), nutrition surveillance and assessment, including Mass Screening, Implementation of preventive nutrition interventions, including blanket feeding, IYCF/MIYCN promotion, breastfeeding support, and community-based strategies to prevent acute malnutrition and Promotion of Maternal, Infant, and Young Child Nutrition (MIYCN) in Nyakabande Transit Centre and Nakivale refugee settlement. The incumbent will report and work under the guidance of the Nutrition Officer.
Duties and Responsibilities
Program Implementation
- Participate in conducting routine community and facility-based nutrition screening for children under five and pregnant and lactating women following approved CMAM guidelines.
- Support enrolment and admit eligible cases to the community treatment program, provide nutrition commodities, follow-up on progress of treatment, discharge from the program and track cases in collaboration with community health volunteers and MOH health staff.
- Identify malnutrition cases with medical complications and ensure timely referral to stabilisation centres, followed by admission into the OTP program upon stabilization.
- Ability to implement and abide by the approved community treatment protocol
- support facility-based and outreach management of acute malnutrition (OTP/SFP).
- Promote MIYCN practices, including breastfeeding counselling and complementary feeding messages in community settings.
- Support delivery of behavior change communication on key nutrition and health practices.
- Ensure accurate case documentation, including admission dates, treatment provided, quantities of nutrition commodities used, follow-up timelines, and any complications observed during treatment.
Community Mobilisation & Capacity Building
- Support, mentor, and mobilize community health volunteers and outreach workers to improve screening, management, referral, and follow-up of cases.
- Provide on-the-job training and coaching to volunteers on CMAM and MIYCN best practices.
Monitoring & Reporting
- Collect, compile and submit weekly, monthly and ad-hoc program data and activity reports to the Nutrition Officer in line with donor and organisational standards.
- Support accurate data entry and quality assurance of program monitoring tools.
- Assist in the preparation of case studies, success stories and lessons learned.
Coordination
- Participate in stakeholder meetings at the community and sub-county level as required by the supervisor.
- Liaise with the health facility teams, WASH and protection counterparts to support integrated management and referral pathways.
Logistics Support
- Track basic nutrition commodities and equipment at field sites and report stock levels to the Nutrition Officer.
Other Duties
- Perform additional tasks as assigned by the supervisor.
Required Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Nutrition & Dietetics, Public Health Nutrition, Community Nutrition, from a recognised institution.
- Minimum 3 years’ experience implementing community nutrition programs with exposure to CMAM, MIYCN, IMAM surge or related interventions.
Skills and Competencies
- Knowledge of CMAM, nutrition screening, assessment methods and referral pathways.
- Experience in behaviour change communication strategies.
- Proficient in data collection, reporting and Microsoft Office applications.
- Strong communication, planning and collaboration skills.
- Ability to work in hardship and field conditions.
