Job Summary;
To focus on testing, reporting to the Quality Engineer. The Laboratory Technician monitors and maintains the quality assurance for all products and quality systems in place. Will support internal and external customers through New Product Development (NPD), innovative customer solutions and customer support.
The job holder reports to Quality Control Engineer and ensures product quality through effective and responsible execution of the quality control policies and procedures while maintaining quality procedures which meet quality standards.
The scope includes:
a. Sample Testing and Preparation
b. Health & Safety Compliance
c. Proper maintenance of testing Equipment
d. Cross checking equipment accuracy/LQTS
e. Result Documentation/ Report writing
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Accurately documents results/observations and maintains paperwork and/or computer databases.
- Ensures that the H&S and housekeeping standards are maintained.
- Performs sample preparation, physical testing and other analysis as per applicable standards.
- Monitors and communicates quality concerns affecting product quality.
- Carries out Primary tests and mechanical tests on Cement specimens presented to him/her (including competitor cements)
- Ensures that all consumables for use in both physical and material Lab are always in place.
- Monitors the sample stores and sorts out unwanted samples regularly.
- Monitors and controls the curing tanks' water levels.
- Prepares reports and other technical literature.
- Run lab quality technical standards (LQTS) to cross-check the equipment accuracy using secondary reference standards to ensure accuracy and integrity.
- Measures and records the Humidity and temperature of the curing room tanks and cabinet where Physical analysis is done daily.
- Ensures that all testing equipment is properly maintained.
- Demonstrates a commitment to communicating, improving and adhering to safety policies in all work environment areas. Promotes a positive safety culture through leading by example.
- Works in the field- as needed.
Required Qualifications skills and attributes.
Educational Requirements
- Must have a minimum of a Diploma in Material Engineering, Chemistry, Laboratory Science Technology (Chemistry/Physical) or a related course.
- Knowledge in concrete and cement testing procedures is an added advantage
- Minimum 1 year of experience in construction building materials or a related industry.
- Minimum 1 year of Laboratory experience.
- Knowledge in quality control & assurance
- Proficiency in MS Office applications
- A good command of the English language, both written and spoken
Profile & Personal Qualities
- Self-driven, results-oriented.
- Able to plan and prioritize
- Comfortable dealing with people and a good listener
- Reliable, tolerant & determined
- Able to work extended hours when required
- Good verbal communication skills
- Flexibility to work anywhere within Uganda is an added advantage
Enforcing the company’s payments policy. Processing supplier invoices, credit memos and generating payments. Reconcile vendor statements, resolve discrepancies, vendor inquiries and disputes. Compiling weekly and monthly payment forecasts. Support to the Payables Controller in ensuring controls around the payment process are adequate and are correctly applied in practice. Support to the Payables Controller in administering tax payments and URA refunds. Replenishing the URA Gross payment account, administration of VAT, excise and withholding Tax ensuring compliance thereon Payment of staff expense claims and processing the accountability report.
Business related Degree and intermediate level qualification in CPA/ACCA Knowledge and proficiency in spreadsheets and ERP applications (SAP, Oracle financials) Tax knowledge of indirect, direct and international taxes. Two years accounts payables and general accounting experience gained in a reputable organization.
