Uganda Youth Development Link (UYDEL) is seeking a qualified Mental Health Nurse / Project Counsellor to provide psychosocial support to adolescent girls and their partners. The role involves delivering mental health services, building community awareness, and integrating emotional well-being into broader reproductive health and climate resilience programming.

Duties, Roles and Responsibilities

  • Conduct mental health screenings and provide individual and group counseling to adolescent girls and their partners.
  • Develop personalized care and referral plans in collaboration with health facilities and project teams.
  • Facilitate group therapy sessions and psychoeducation activities.
  • Work alongside project staff and community health workers to embed mental health into SRHR and climate resilience efforts.
  • Train peer educators, caregivers, and community leaders in mental health awareness and support strategies.
  • Monitor and document mental health trends, service outcomes, and case studies for reporting and learning.

Qualifications, Education and Competencies

  • Diploma or Degree in Mental Health Nursing or Psychiatric Nursing.
  • Must be registered with the Uganda Nurses and Midwives Council.
  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience working with adolescents, preferably in community-based or NGO settings.
  • Understanding of climate change and its impact on mental and reproductive health is a strong asset.
  • Proficient in interpersonal communication, case documentation, and teamwork.

Desirable Attributes

  • Empathetic, culturally sensitive, and youth-friendly approach to care.
  • Experience working in under-resourced or climate-vulnerable communities.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in multidisciplinary teams.
