Job Summary:
The Production and Marketing Officer is responsible for providing technical expertise and support to DCA and partner staff in the planning, implementation, monitoring & evaluation of food security and nutrition projects to enhance sustainable agricultural systems in DCA operational areas. Expected to work closely with Senior Production and marketing officer, and stakeholders in the adoption of environmentally friendly and economically viable agricultural farming techniques. Develop training materials and guidelines and train DCA and partner staff/agricultural extension workers/community promoters as well as project participants in climate smart sustainable food production and marketing.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop appropriate training content, materials and tools targeting different audiences (community, staff, partners, and other relevant stakeholders).
- Train staff, Community based facilitators / project participants on regenerative and restorative interventions, biodiversity interventions such as perma – gardens and agroforestry etc.
- Participate in setting selection criteria for participant, targeting and vetting exercises; ensure fair representation women, men, boys, and girls at farm/community level decision making by applying the Age, Gender, and Diversity (AGD) principle.
- Conduct site supervision to ensure that selection and design of technologies are appropriate and make necessary adjustments dynamic and responsive.
- Facilitate platforms for knowledge sharing through the establishment of demonstration gardens, kitchen gardens, block farms and networks on food security and nutrition as well as agroecology.
- Integrate topics on Cash, Nutrition, environment, and gender training in agricultural production and marketing systems.
- Participate in Advocacy on food security and Nutrition, climate change and food systems transformation initiatives.
- Actively participate in project design and proposals development on the elements of food security and nutrition principles and sustainable food systems.
- Ensure project reports are timely produced and shared with donors and stakeholders according to agreed reporting guidelines.
- Promote transparency and accountability to project participants through application of DCA complaint and feedback mechanisms.
- Closely work with stakeholders (Local government, OPM, UNHCR, target beneficiary representatives, etc.) to ensure effective coordination and institutional linkage is established on agroecology and sustainable food systems.
- Link project participants to input dealers, financial institutions and off-takers or markets.
- Participate in budget preparation, regular budget BVA monitoring, and budget realignment processes to ensure the timely utilization of all grants in accordance with donor guidelines.
- Ensure full compliance with DCA and donor financial guidelines and policies while implementing the project budget.
- Represent DCA in relevant sector working groups such as Livelihood and environment sector, food security and nutrition working groups as well as agriculture or agroecology related platforms.
- Supervise land tillage for project participants through various approaches (cash for work, Tractor tillage, Animal tractions.
- Adhere to DCA Code of Conduct, accountability, child protection, and PSEA policies.
Qualifications, Skills, and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Agriculture, Horticulture, Agribusiness, or a related field.
- Relevant experience of at least 5 years in agricultural production, including crop cultivation and livestock management.
- Familiarity with sustainable and environmentally friendly agricultural practices.
- Strong marketing skills with a track record of successfully promoting agricultural products.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to collect, analyze, and interpret data effectively.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to prepare reports.
- Proactive mindset with the ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team.
- Familiarity with work in refugee settlements, and refugee host-communities is an added advantage.
