Project description

KAYESE, with Restless Development and the Media Challenge Initiative, is implementing the Youth Inclusion in Governance and Accountability (YIGA) project under the PACER Program, supported by the Royal Danish Embassy. YIGA aims to enhance youth participation in governance and decision-making in Karamoja and Uganda by 2027, while strengthening accountability, promoting sustainable practices, and supporting community-led responses to climate and governance challenges.

Role Description

The Project Officer will support day-to-day implementation of the YIGA project in accordance with the project work plan and strategy. The role involves supervising Climate Resilient Champions (CRCs) and Community Facilitators, ensuring quality delivery of field activities, and maintaining effective engagement with stakeholders and beneficiaries. The Officer will also contribute to documentation, reporting, and coordination efforts to achieve the project’s goals.

Key Responsibilities

A. Project Implementation and Coordination

  • Assist in planning and executing project activities in line with approved work plans and budgets.
  • Supervise and provide technical and logistical support to Climate Resilient Champions (CRCs) and Community Facilitators in their respective areas of operation.
  • Coordinate timely delivery of project activities including trainings, dialogues, awareness campaigns, and resilience-building interventions in target communities and schools.

B. Stakeholder Engagement and Community Mobilization

  • Engage with local government authorities, civil society organizations, and community leaders to ensure inclusive participation and local ownership of project interventions.
  • Support effective communication between project stakeholders and beneficiaries, ensuring community voices are reflected in the implementation processes.
  • Facilitate and document community feedback and support its integration into project planning and delivery.

C. Monitoring, Evaluation, and Reporting

  • Support data collection, documentation of field activity results, and tracking of progress against project indicators.
  • Compile and submit regular field reports, success stories, and updates to the Project Coordinator.
  • Monitor the performance and deliverables of supervised staff and provide regular feedback and mentorship.

D. Administration and Compliance

  • Ensure proper documentation of project activities, expenditures, and participant attendance at the community level.
  • Liaise with administrative and logistics staff to ensure effective procurement and distribution of project inputs.
  • Uphold compliance with donor and organizational policies, including those related to safeguarding, gender, and environmental standards.

E. Reporting and Work Relationships

The Project Officers will report to the YIGA Project Coordinator and will directly supervise a team of Climate Resilient Champions and Community Facilitators. S/he will collaborate closely with other program and support staff, as well as external partners and local stakeholders, report KAYESE mission and Vision at project locations.

Qualifications - Desirable candidates

  • The applicant must be able to express themselves in one or two languages of Ngakaramojong, Ethur, Pokot, IK and Soo.
  • Must possess Bachelors in social sciences, community development, and development studies with a minimum of 3 years experience in development interventions in areas of climate change advocacy, and community empowerment through mobilization.
  • Possession of a motorcycle riding permit is an added advantage and female candidates are encouraged to apply.
