Job Summary
- To enable business growth while maintaining a robust wholesale credit risk control framework, managing post-sanction fulfilment activities including facility letter generation, limit management, excess management, covenants management and securities oversight.
- To ensure portfolio quality is maintained by supporting both coverage and wholesale credit teams through continuous monitoring of borrowing names and producing/maintaining robust management information to report on adherence to sanction terms and conditions.
- To provide comprehensive and regular reporting on all control and governance requirements
Job Description
Risk Management (60%)
- Responsible for monitoring and control of the live portfolio to assure adherence to terms and conditions of sanction, identifying any areas within the portfolio that are cause for concern/potential cause for concern and communicating the same both up and down reporting lines.
- Support Business growth (revenue and market share) by ensuring facility letter generation, limit set-up and disbursements are processed within agreed Credit and Business Service Level Agreements and in adherence to localised credit policies/standards and procedural guidelines.
- Ensure that appropriate legal opinions, credit waiver/deferral approvals are held for all cases of document deficiency.
- Act as a source of technical excellence and point of reference in relation to risk matters, specifically post-sanction fulfilment.
- Effectively manage facility limits to ensure that published limits are in line with the latest sanction and in accordance with the operational processes and procedures.
- Ensure robust management of post-sanction monitoring and control activities (security maintenance items, limits management, excess management, cash margin early and safe-to-lend draws, committed/uncommitted facilities and sanction conditions.
- Provide oversight of review of excesses daily refer list to confirm that appropriate action has been undertaken by the relationship and markets teams on reportable and non-reportable excesses.
- Manage covenants and conditions data with regards to integrity (capturing), notification, testing, flagging overdue and escalation of any breached covenants.
- Work closely with internal legal team on non-standard commercial terms/documentation and changes thereof.
- Act as a point of contact for both internal and external audits. Responsible for the rectification and documentation of any recommendations arising out of audit/assurance exception findings within Wholesale Credit.
- Ensure robust and error-free management information as produced by Risk Control Unit for use in risk/business governance forums and regulatory reporting.
- Ensure adherence to segregation of duties (maker checker concept) across Risk Control Unit processes without deviation.
- Periodically test Risk Control Unit Business Continuity plan (BCM).
- Support Head of Risk Control Unit, Policy, Governance and Change in conducting User Acceptance Tests for new project rollouts.
- Strictly adhere to Credit/RCU processes and procedures to ensure overall impairment and loan loss rates are managed within agreed thresholds.
- Enhance control environment through monthly participation in Portfolio, EWL, RRCC meetings to discuss Credit/RCU related matters including but not limited to overdue facility letters, valuation reports, safe-to-Lend/early drawdowns, breaches in sanction conditions, security maintenance items, and Account excesses.
- Ensure that there are no regulatory or conduct breaches within Risk Control Unit.
- Provide input for the design and formulation of Wholesale Credit Policy (when required).
- Manage the monitoring of syndicate loans (repayment of instalments, interest, conditions with the agent/participant banks)
- Participate in the review of Wholesale Credit procedure manuals/maps and CPAs with the aim of enabling business, improving existing processes and controls.
Business Risk Partnership (20%)
- Support the Credit Admin and Policy Manager in monitoring service and delivery in line with business needs.
- Proactively contribute to embedding agreed change management initiatives in support of process and quality improvements, cost reductions and development of RCU staff.
- Work in partnership with colleagues and proactively anticipate, respond to and seek to exceed the expectations of customers.
- Maintain an interactive relationship with the Wholesale Credit Team and Business to ensure rectification of any prevailing credit issues.
- Attend meetings with Corporate Credit Managers/Relationship Managers/Securities to ensure resolution of any credit risk issues.
- Ensure a consistent quality of service to Business stakeholders.
- Support the Head of Risk Control Unit, Policy, Governance and Change in monitoring service and delivery in line with business needs.
- Ensure knowledge of RCU guidelines and enablement of best practice sharing across the Corporate Credit and Business stakeholders.
- Jointly with Credit Manager’s and Relationship Manager’s, participate in customer visits to better understand their needs and improve of customer service.
Teamwork (20%)
- Develop and maintain a close working relationship with Business, Wholesale Credit Risk and other functions.
- Develop and maintain a database of management information to assist the monitoring and control at the business and individual portfolio level.
- Attend all meetings relevant to the job and report on issues affecting team performance.
- Participate, support and contribute to official and informal events conducted by the Wholesale Credit Risk Team.
- Aid Wholesale Credit Risk Team as needed to ensure the achievement of business goals.
Preferred Education
- Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent in a related field
Preferred Experience
- 3 years working experience in a similar role preferably in a financial institution
- At least 1 year's experience in governance and control function will be of added advantage
Education
