Purpose of position
The Savings and Loans Project Officer will establish and strengthen savings groups, delivers financial literacy training, and promotes financial inclusion among boda riders and communities. The role designs a practical Savings and Financial Literacy Curriculum and supports the implementation and monitoring of savings and lending initiatives to build economic resilience. The officer links beneficiaries to financial institutions, supports green and circular‑economy livelihoods, and ensures activities meet project indicators, outputs, and outcomes.
Main areas of responsibility
1. Savings group Formation, Training & Mentorship
- Mobilise and sensitise targeted boda riders on savings principles and benefits
- Facilitate formation of new Savings groups and support member selection
- Train Boda rider groups on Savings methodology, governance, savings, lending, and record-keeping
- Mentor group leaders to strengthen leadership, transparency, and accountability in the saving groups & green jobs.
- Provide regular coaching visits to reinforce skills, mindset transformation on better savings/investment focus, and correct gaps
- Support groups through savings cycles toward self-management and sustainability
2. Financial Literacy Training
- Design a training manual on budgeting, savings, debt management, record keeping, and investment
- Deliver training on budgeting, saving, debt and loan/asset payment management, record keeping, and investment
- Promote emergency funds and responsible borrowing within the savings groups or individuals’ savings scheme
3. Coordination, Quality Assurance, Learning & Compliance
- Maintain records and reports
- Deliver timely and accurate monthly/quarterly reports
- Ensure donor compliance and coordination within the consortium on savings and linking boda riders to financial institutions
4. Community Mobilisation & Capacity Building
- Mobilise and train targeted individuals/boda riders
- Support with social and behaviour change for financial literacy and financial discipline
5. Financial Linkages, Inclusion & Sustainability Support
- Link groups to banks, SACCOs, MFIs
- Promote digital finance and asset financing
Qualifications and Requirements
- Diploma/bachelor’s degree in Finance, Business or Economics.
- Related field 3–5 years’ experience in SACCOs.
- Proven track record on working with and training boda riders on financial inclusion or linking savers/boda riders to financial institutions.
- Strong facilitation and community mobilisation skills.
- Experience working with digital financial services or mobile money platforms.
- Knowledge of livelihoods, entrepreneurship, or small‑business development.
- Experience working with donor‑funded projects.
- Knowledge of green economy is an added advantage.
- In addition Swahili and Luganda is an asset.
- Proficiency in quantitative and qualitative methods and tools (e.g., Kobo), sampling, survey design etc).
- Data management and visualisation experience (e.g., Excel/Power BI/Tableau); familiarity with LIME or similar CRM/PM systems.
- Demonstrated experience operationalizing CHS standards, AAP mechanisms, safeguarding/PSEA in MEAL practice.
- Demonstrated experience operationalising RBC, and safeguarding/PSEA in MEAL practice.
