Job Title :Trainee -Laboratory Technician
Vacancy Code :TLTX01
Reporting line :Quality Manager
Duration : Full Time-Contract
Duty Station :Tororo
Job Summary:
We are seeking a dynamic, self-driven and detail oriented Trainee -Laboratory Technician to join our intensive Training Program. The successful candidate will work under the direct mentorship of the Quality Manager to: ensure safety of people and equipment as well as environment, Operate, Calibrate clean and troubleshhoo lab instruments to ensure reliability. Disinfect work areas, dispose of hazadious waste properly and ensure compliance to procedures,practices, regulations that can make the overall objective attainable.This program is structured to transition high -performing trainees into full time technical roles
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Report any anomaly observed on the machines to the supervisor. (Do first level inspection on all the Lab equipments available for routine tests.)
- Participate in the site health, safety and environment management programs
- Communicate clearly on information relating to potentially dangerous situations and get confirmation that they are correctly understood
- Ensure the proper use of Personal Protective Equipment.
- Clean all the Machines and apparatus and maintains a clean environment in the Laboratory.
- Perform tasks in accordance with Sarrai health, safety and environment standards, procedures and policies.
- Adheres to and implements defined safe working procedures and practices in the Laboratory.
- Analyse industrial and laboratory trials for product development and improvement in mill shop samples for process optimisation.
- Carry out accurate and timely analysis of cement samples for the final product, competitor samples and customer complaints for both chemistry, physical and mechanical tests.
- Take records of all tests in TIS and informs the supervisor on any variations detected.
- Report any anomalies with the sampling equipments. (eg Auto samplers)
- Ensure all the quality targets are met while on shift and take corrective action.
- Monitoring the grinding aid flow to the cement mills according to the set targets to achieve quality targets.
- Adhere to and implement defined safe working procedures and practices in the laboratory
Required Qualifications skills and attributes.
- Diploma in Chemistry or a closely related field from a recognised university
- Must have graduated within the last two to three years (2-3) years
Technical Competencies
- Strong analytical thinking, eagerness to learn, effective verbal/written communication and the ability to thrive in a team
- Handle hazardous chemicals safely andd follow factory health lines
- Record test results accurately in logs or diital systems like Laboratory Information Management System
- High safety consciousness, adaptability and a proactive problem-solving attitude
- Strong Knowledge of cement packing , bagging, loading and dispatch operations
- Ability to operate,monitor, troubleshoot packingmachines,conveyors,compressors, elevators, feeders, and related equipment chemical testing ,
- Knowledge of cement quality requirements and prevention of product contamination
Profile & Personal Qualities
- Good written and oral Communication skills and good stakeholder management skills.
- High integrity and confidentiality.
- Right attitude to work in a demanding, challenging and busy environment.
- Able to work extended hours when need araise
