Responsibilities or duties

Main duties and responsibilities:

  • To teach in areas allocated by the Head of Department in the semester.
  • To carry out research, assessment of exams and other assignments, teaching, mentoring, supervision of undergraduate research, development of specialist teaching and learning provision, including short courses in the area of specialization and related disciplines.
  • To contribute to the broader engagement of scholarly and professional communities including reputation both internally and externally.
  • To contribute to the development, planning and implementation of a high-quality curriculum.
  • To assist in the development of learning materials and maintaining records to monitor student progress, achievement and attendance.
  • To provide student support in pastoral roles, counselling and career guidance to students.
  • To participate in the administration of the department’s programs of study and other activities as requested including building e-learning into the delivery of teaching to students as appropriate.
  • To contribute to departmental, faculty and wide working groups or committees as required.
  • Perform any other official duties as may be assigned by the supervisor from time to time.

Qualifications or requirements (e.g., education, skills)

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Must have a Master’s Degree related to Fine Arts, Visual Art or Industrial Arts with demonstrable skills in Fashion, Fabrics, Painting, Sculpture, and Ceramics from a recognized institution of higher learning.
  • Any Bachelor’s Degree related to Fine Arts, Visual Art or Industrial Arts with demonstrable skills in Fashion, Fabrics, Painting, Sculpture, and Ceramics from a recognized institution of higher learning.
  • Must have at least one scholarly article or publication OR should have undertaken at least one research project/paper.
  • Proven record of ability to manage time and work to strict deadlines; Evidence of ability to teach and to supervise academic work by undergraduates and graduates.
  • Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills; proven record of ability to conduct high-quality research which is reflected in the authorship of high-quality publications, or other research outputs, in the related areas.
  • Proven commitment to academic research, commitment to high-quality teaching and fostering a positive learning environment for students, commitment to continuous professional development.
  • Must be a mature and committed Christian.

Experience needed

  • At least two (2) years of university teaching experience at the level of Lecturer or Assistant Lecturer or three (3) years teaching service at Tutorial Assistant Level. OR must be willing to serve at a lower rank before attaining the requisite teaching experience.
