Job Summary
The Radiographer is responsible for providing high-quality diagnostic imaging services to support accurate patient diagnosis and treatment. The role involves operating radiographic equipment, ensuring patient safety and comfort, maintaining imaging records, and adhering to professional, ethical, and radiation safety standards. The successful candidate will work primarily from Monday to Friday, with weekend duties arranged on a negotiable, per-patient basis.
Key Responsibilities
Diagnostic Imaging
- Perform diagnostic imaging procedures, including X-rays and other radiographic examinations, as prescribed by medical practitioners.
- Position patients correctly to obtain high-quality diagnostic images.
- Ensure imaging procedures are carried out safely, accurately, and efficiently.
- Review image quality and repeat examinations where necessary to achieve diagnostic standards.
Patient Care
- Explain imaging procedures to patients and address their concerns professionally.
- Ensure patient comfort, privacy, and dignity throughout the examination process.
- Verify patient identity and examination requests before conducting procedures.
- Provide compassionate and professional care to patients of all ages.
Equipment & Quality Assurance
- Operate, maintain, and perform routine checks on radiographic equipment.
- Report equipment faults and coordinate timely maintenance and repairs.
- Maintain imaging equipment in accordance with manufacturer guidelines and hospital procedures.
- Ensure imaging rooms are clean, organized, and ready for use.
Radiation Safety & Compliance
- Adhere to radiation protection and safety regulations at all times.
- Ensure appropriate use of protective equipment for patients, staff, and visitors.
- Maintain compliance with hospital policies, professional standards, and regulatory requirements.
- Keep accurate patient records and imaging documentation while maintaining confidentiality.
Collaboration & Reporting
- Work closely with doctors, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to support patient diagnosis and treatment.
- Participate in departmental meetings, quality improvement initiatives, and continuing professional development.
- Prepare and maintain accurate imaging reports and departmental records where required.
Minimum Qualifications
- Diploma in Radiography or Medical Imaging from a recognized institution.
- Valid professional registration and practicing license from the relevant regulatory authority.
- Current Annual Practicing License (where applicable).
Experience
- Previous experience in a hospital or diagnostic imaging centre is an added advantage.
- Experience operating digital radiography equipment is desirable.
