JOB DETAILS:

Job Purpose / Objective:
Responsible for operating the roller, a heavy construction machine with a large rolling drum, to compact and smooth the surface of roads and other construction areas.
Efficiently operate the roller, achieve proper compaction, and contribute to the successful execution of road constructions projects.

Job Roles and Responsibilities:
• Roller Operation: Safely and skilfully operate the roller to compact and smooth road surfaces and other construction areas.
• Compaction Control: Ensure proper compaction by adjusting the roller's weight and drum settings as per project specifications.
• Surface Finishing: Achieve a smooth and even surface texture by controlling the roller's movement and speed.
• Safety Compliance: Adhere to all safety regulations and protocols for the safe operation of the roller and work in a manner that minimizes risks to personnel and equipment.
• Equipment Maintenance: Conduct routine inspections of the roller and report any mechanical issues or maintenance requirements promptly.
• Communication: Effectively communicate with the Roller Operator Supervisor and other team members to coordinate tasks and ensure efficient workflow.
• Project Support: Collaborate with other construction crew members to support various tasks and contribute to the overall progress of the road construction project.
• Environmental Awareness: Follow environmentally responsible practices during roller operations to minimize environmental impact.
• Record Keeping: Maintain accurate records of daily operations, including work hours, fuel usage, and equipment maintenance.
• Safety Compliance: Follow all safety regulations and protocols for the safe operation of the excavator and work in a manner that minimizes risks to personnel and equipment.

Key Performance Indicators (KPIs):
To be successful in this role, candidates should possess the following qualifications and skills:
• Compaction Efficiency: Measure the ability to efficiently achieve proper compaction of road surfaces and construction areas.
• Surface Smoothness: Evaluate the smoothness and evenness of the compacted road surfaces.
• Safety Compliance: Track adherence to safety protocols and the number of incidents or accidents during roller operation.
• Equipment Maintenance: Assess the frequency and urgency of roller maintenance requirements.
• Team Collaboration: Evaluate the ability to work well with other construction team members and supervisors.
• Project Progress: Monitor and report on the completion of roller tasks as per project timelines.
• Adherence to Specifications: Ensure compliance with project specifications and compaction guidelines.
• Environmental Impact: Monitor and minimize the environmental impact of roller activities.
• Work Experience, Skills and Knowledge:
• Roller Operation Skills: Proficient in operating and controlling the roller accurately and efficiently.
• Safety Consciousness: Knowledge of safety procedures and a strong commitment to maintaining a safe work environment.
• Technical Knowledge: Understanding of roller mechanics and troubleshooting minor mechanical issues.
• Communication: Ability to effectively communicate with supervisors and team members to coordinate tasks and report issues.
• Compaction Expertise: Experience and knowledge of proper compaction techniques for different types of surfaces and materials.
• Surface Finishing: Skill in achieving smooth and even surface textures with the roller.
• Team Player: Willingness to collaborate and support other construction team members to achieve project objectives.
• Environmental Awareness: Knowledge of environmental regulations and practices to minimize the environmental impact of roller operations.
• Physical Endurance: Ability to withstand long hours of operating heavy machinery and handling roller tasks.
• Record Keeping: Capability to maintain accurate records of daily operations and equipment maintenance.
• Valid driver's license: Possession of a valid driver’s license and any relevant certifications.
• Qualification: Ordinary Level Certificate and / or Certification in Dozer Operation / related technical field.
• Professional experience: Minimum of three years’ busy commercial working experience.
