JOB DETAILS:
Job Purpose / Objective:
i. Operate the excavator, a heavy construction machine equipped with a digging bucket, to perform various excavation, digging, and material handling tasks on construction sites.
ii. Efficiently operate the excavator, follow project specifications, and contribute to the successful execution of road projects.

Job Roles and Responsibilities:
1. Excavator Operation: Safely and skillfully operate the excavator to perform digging, excavation, and material handling tasks as required for the road construction project.
2. Excavation and Trenching: Execute precise excavation and trenching work, adhering to project specifications and requirements.
3. Material Handling: Use the excavator's bucket or attachments to load, move, and distribute materials to designated locations on the construction site.
4. Safety Compliance: Adhere to all safety regulations and protocols for the safe operation of the excavator and work in a manner that minimizes risks to personnel and equipment.
5. Equipment Maintenance: Conduct routine inspections of the excavator and report any mechanical issues or maintenance requirements promptly.
6. Site Preparation: Assist in site preparation activities, such as clearing debris and leveling the terrain, to facilitate road construction.
7. Communication: Effectively communicate with the Excavator Operator Supervisor and other team members to coordinate tasks and ensure efficient workflow.
8. Project Support: Collaborate with other construction crew members to support various tasks and contribute to the overall progress of the road construction project.
9. Environmental Awareness: Follow environmentally responsible practices during excavator operations to minimize environmental impact.
10. Record Keeping: Maintain accurate records of daily operations, including work hours, fuel usage, and equipment maintenance.
11. Safety Compliance: Follow all safety regulations and protocols for the safe operation of the excavator and work in a manner that minimizes risks to personnel and equipment.

Key Performance Indicators (KPIs):
To be successful in this role, candidates should possess the following qualifications and skills:
1. Excavation Efficiency: Measure the ability to efficiently perform excavation and trenching tasks with the excavator.
2. Trench Accuracy: Evaluate the precision of trenching work, ensuring adherence to specified dimensions and depths.
3. Safety Compliance: Track adherence to safety protocols and the number of incidents or accidents during excavator operation.
4. Equipment Maintenance: Assess the frequency and urgency of excavator maintenance requirements.
5. Team Collaboration: Evaluate the ability to work well with other construction team members and supervisors.
6. Project Progress: Monitor and report on the completion of excavator tasks as per project timelines.
7. Adherence to Specifications: Ensure compliance with project specifications and excavation guidelines.
8. Material Utilization: Evaluate the efficient use of construction materials during excavator operations.
9. Environmental Impact: Monitor and minimize the environmental impact of excavator activities.

Work Experience, Skills and Knowledge:
1. Excavator Operation Skills: Proficient in operating and controlling the excavator accurately and efficiently.
2. Safety Consciousness: Knowledge of safety procedures and a strong commitment to maintaining a safe work environment.
3. Technical Knowledge: Understanding of excavator mechanics and troubleshooting minor mechanical issues.
4. Communication: Ability to effectively communicate with supervisors and team members to coordinate tasks and report issues.
5. Excavation Expertise: Experience and knowledge of excavation techniques, including trenching and digging.
6. Material Handling: Skill in using the excavator to handle and distribute construction materials effectively.
7. Team Player: Willingness to collaborate and support other construction team members to achieve project objectives.
8. Environmental Awareness: Knowledge of environmental regulations and practices to minimize the environmental impact of excavator operations.
9. Physical Endurance: Ability to withstand long hours of operating heavy machinery and performing excavation tasks.
10. Record Keeping: Capability to maintain accurate records of daily operations and equipment maintenance.
11. Valid driver's license: Possession of a valid driver’s license and any relevant certifications.
12. Qualification: Ordinary Level Certificate and / or Certification in Dozer Operation / related technical field.
13. Professional experience: Minimum of three years’ busy commercial working experience.
