Job Summary: The Quality Field Assistant is responsible for ensuring the quality and safety of  raw milk collected from farmers and milk collection centers before it is delivered to the factory.This role involves traveling to various milk collection points, testing milk for quality parameters, maintaining accurate field records, and ensuring proper handling and transportation of milk to prevent contamination or spoilage. The Quality Field Assistant also supports farmer sensitization on hygiene and milk handling practices and ensures that all milk received meets Ruko Milk Factory’s quality standards.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
Milk Collection and Quality Testing
- Collect milk from farmers and collection centers according to the daily schedule.
- Conduct on-site milk quality tests (e.g., lactometer reading, alcohol test, organoleptic test) before accepting milk.
- Reject substandard milk that does not meet company quality specifications.
- Ensure that collected milk is stored and transported under hygienic and cold chain conditions.
Record Keeping and Reporting
- Record milk volumes, supplier names, and quality test results accurately in daily logs.
- Maintain and submit field reports on milk collection and quality trends.
- Track and report any unusual changes in milk supply or quality to the Quality Assurance Officer.
Farmer Engagement and Sensitization
- Educate farmers on good hygiene, proper milking practices, and milk handling procedures.
- Provide feedback to farmers about milk quality test results and advise on improvement measures.
- Build and maintain good relationships with milk suppliers and local collection centers operators.
Transport and Logistics
- Safely transport collected milk from collection centers to the factory using a motorbike.
- Ensure all milk containers are sealed, labelled, and handled carefully to avoid contamination or spillage.
- Maintain the motorbike in good working condition and observe all traffic and safety regulations.
Compliance and Field Hygiene
- Adhere to food safety and quality assurance standards set by Ruko Milk Factory and regulatory authorities (UNBS, ISO, HACCP).
- Maintain cleanliness and hygiene during milk handling, testing, and transportation.
- Assist in monitoring cleanliness and equipment condition at milk collection centers.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- Certificate in Animal Production, Dairy Management, or related field; or at least an O’ Level certificate with relevant experience.
- 2–3 years of experience in milk collection, testing, or transportation within the dairy sector.
- Must possess a valid motorcycle riding permit.
- Basic knowledge of milk quality testing methods and safe milk handling practices.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Practical understanding of dairy farming and milk collection systems.
- Ability to conduct basic milk quality tests accurately.
- Good communication and record-keeping skills.
- Honest, reliable, and able to work independently in the field.
- Physically fit and willing to work early mornings and long hours.
- Basic knowledge of hygiene and food safety practices.
- Motorbike riding skills with strict adherence to road safety.
Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
- Volume of milk collected daily vs. target.
- Percentage of milk accepted vs. rejected due to quality issues.
- Accuracy and timeliness of field records and reports.
- Number of farmers sensitized on milk quality and hygiene.
- Milk spillage or loss rate during transportation.
- Compliance with cold chain and hygiene standards.
- Motorbike maintenance and fuel efficiency records.
