About Media Challenge Initiative

Media Challenge Initiative (MCI) is a non-profit organization dedicated to empowering young journalists and media professionals in Uganda. We aim to foster a vibrant and independent media landscape by providing training, mentorship, and opportunities for growth.

Role Context

We are seeking an enthusiastic and driven individual to join our team as an Apprenticeship Newsroom Manager. This role is crucial for the smooth operation of our newsroom and provides a fantastic opportunity for a budding manager to gain hands-on experience in a dynamic media environment.

Responsibilities

The Apprenticeship Newsroom Manager will be responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the MCI newsroom. This includes coordinating with journalists, editors, and other staff to ensure timely and accurate reporting, managing content flow, and supporting the editorial team in achieving their goals. The role involves assisting in the planning and execution of newsroom strategies, ensuring adherence to journalistic standards, and fostering a collaborative and productive work environment.

Qualifications and Experience

Ideal candidates will possess strong organizational and leadership skills, a passion for journalism, and a keen interest in media management. While formal experience in management is not strictly required, a demonstrated ability to lead projects or teams, excellent communication skills, and a proactive approach are essential. A background in journalism, media studies, or a related field is advantageous. The ability to work effectively under pressure and meet deadlines is also important.
