Responsibilities or duties
The Assistant lecturer will provide high-quality teaching, research and student supervision in Mathematics for Computing, Algorithms, Statistics and Computational Methods, with emphasis on applying mathematical and quantitative concepts to Information Technology and Computer Science.
Qualifications or requirements (e.g., education, skills)
Applicants should possess: A Master's degree in Mathematics, Applied Mathematics, Computational Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science, Data Science or a closely related field from a recognised university. A Bachelor's degree in Mathematics, Applied Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science, Computer Engineering or a related discipline. Demonstrable competence in Mathematics for Computing and quantitative methods. Demonstrable experience in teaching at university or tertiary level. Ability to use mathematical, statistical or computational software is an added advantage. A full admission into a PhD Program or on PhD track will be an added advantange.

Applicants for both positions should demonstrate: Excellent teaching, communication and presentation skills, Strong practical and theoretical knowledge of computing, Ability to use competency-based, student-centred and technology-enhanced teaching approaches, Ability to develop innovative teaching and learning materials, Strong research and academic writing skills, Evidence or potential for scholarly publication, Ability to supervise undergraduate and postgraduate students, Commitment to academic integrity and professional ethics, Ability to work collaboratively in multidisciplinary academic teams, Commitment to continuous professional development, Ability to contribute to university community engagement and outreach programmes.
NOTE 2: KEY DIGITAL AND PROFESSIONAL COMPETENCIES
Candidates should preferably demonstrate competence in: Learning Management Systems (LMS), Online and blended learning, Digital assessment tools, Software development environments, Version control systems such as Git, Programming and computational tools, Data management and analysis, Emerging ICT technologies.
- Teach undergraduate and postgraduate courses in Mathematics for Computing and related quantitative disciplines,
- Teach mathematical concepts and techniques relevant to Computer Science and Information Technology,
- Teach courses in areas such as Discrete Mathematics, Calculus, Linear Algebra, Probability, Statistics, Mathematical Logic and Numerical Methods.
- Teach algorithms, computational thinking and mathematical foundations of computing,
- Demonstrate practical applications of mathematical concepts in programming, data analysis and computer science,
- Develop teaching materials, tutorials, practical exercises and competency-based assessments,
- Supervise student research projects, dissertations and computational projects,
- Conduct research in computational mathematics, data science, mathematical modelling, statistics or related areas,
- Publish research findings in reputable peer-reviewed journals,
- Participate in curriculum development and review,
- Support interdisciplinary teaching and research involving Mathematics, Computing, Data Science and Information Technology,
- Participate in academic advising, examinations and quality assurance activities,
- Participate in community engagement, consultancy and innovation activities,
- Perform any other duties assigned by the Head of Department, Dean or relevant University authority.
