Background
Dalilang Foods & Beverages is a Ugandan FMCG manufacturer producing packaged snacks, including potato crisps, gonja chips, coated peanuts and peanut butter, alongside spring water, fruit nectars and energy drinks.
Job Description
Supports the water treatment processes for steam boilers and associated utility systems across the plant. Maintains precise water chemistry to prevent scale, corrosion, and deposits that can impair boiler efficiency or cause equipment damage.
Key Duties & Responsibilities
- Collect water samples from designated softened water tanks, feedwater tanks, condensate returns, and boiler water sampling points following strict safety protocols.
- Conduct routine testing for parameters including hardness, pH, conductivity, alkalinity, and dissolved solids against defined operating ranges.
- Monitor chemical dosing tanks, pumps, hoses, and connections, reporting leaks or abnormal consumption promptly.
- Prepare manual chemical mixtures strictly according to written instructions covering concentration, water volume, required PPE, and labeling.
- Assist with water softener regeneration by monitoring salt levels, overseeing regeneration cycles, and verifying treated water hardness standards.
- Provide test results to authorized boiler personnel to support blowdown adjustments and corrective actions without altering boiler controls independently.
- Inspect utility spaces for leaks, corrosion, damaged insulation, faulty gauges, chemical spills, or unsafe access.
- Maintain thorough records of test results, chemical consumption, softener regenerations, process abnormalities, and maintenance requests.
- Track inventory levels for salt, treatment chemicals, testing reagents, sample bottles, and PPE to prevent operational stockouts.
Skills
- Practical chemical safety, handling, and PPE compliance around pressurized and high temperature utility systems.
- Routine water testing using standard laboratory kits, meters, and careful sampling techniques.
- Applied technical numeracy and disciplined recording of operational utility data.
- Understanding of fundamental water softening and boiler water treatment principles.
- Attention to operational safety limits and timely escalation of abnormalities.
