Position Title: Boiler Fireman / Boiler Operator

Department: Utilities / Power Plant

Reports To: Chief Engineer or Shift Supervisor

Work Schedule: Rotating Shift Work

Job Summary:

The Boiler Fireman is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of high-pressure steam boiler systems. This includes monitoring controls, adjusting combustion, performing water treatment tests, and maintaining logs to ensure reliable steam supply for production or heating needs.

Key Responsibilities:

• Operate and monitor boiler control panels, gauges, and alarms during shift.
• Adjust boiler controls to maintain proper steam pressure, temperature, and fuel efficiency.
• Perform routine boiler blowdowns, check water levels, and take samples for chemical analysis (water treatment).
• Monitor and adjust combustion parameters (air/fuel ratio) to optimize efficiency and minimize emissions.
• Conduct regular inspections of boiler systems, including fireside and waterside areas, and report any abnormalities.
• Start up and shut down boiler equipment following strict standard operating procedures.
• Maintain accurate shift logs for operations, fuel consumption, water treatment, and maintenance activities.
• Respond to operational upsets and emergencies in accordance with safety protocols.
• Assist the Boiler Shift Fitter with minor maintenance and isolation procedures.

Qualifications & Skills:

• Education: High school diploma required. Stationary Engineer or Boiler Operator certification is typically required (specific grade depends on boiler horsepower/local regulations).
• Experience: 3+ years of experience operating industrial boiler systems.
• Licenses/Certifications: Valid [State/Province] Boiler Operator License or equivalent. Knowledge of water treatment chemistry is essential.
• Skills: Strong observational skills, mechanical understanding, and the ability to remain calm and focused under pressure. Basic computer skills for control systems.
