Description
Job Purpose
To drive growth and expansion of Britam Uganda’s alternative distribution channels by identifying, developing, and managing strategic partnerships that increase market reach, customer acquisition, and revenue generation outside traditional agency networks.
Key Responsibilities
Channel Development & Expansion
- Identify and onboard new alternative distribution partners (e.g., banks, SACCOs, telecoms, fintechs, retail chains, NGOs).
- Develop scalable distribution models for insurance products through partners, preferably with a fully digital end-to-end approach.
- Drive penetration into underserved and emerging markets, including Agro-Processing and Industrial Parks, key regional hubs for expansion, and agricultural value chains.
Partnership Management
- Build and maintain strong relationships with key partners.
- Negotiate and structure partnership agreements and commercial terms.
- Conduct weekly performance reviews with agents and partners.
Sales & Revenue Growth
- Achieve and exceed assigned revenue targets from alternative channels.
- Drive product uptake through partners using tailored sales strategies.
- Monitor and optimise partner performance to maximise output.
Product Innovation & Market Fit
- Collaborate with product teams to design customised solutions for each channel.
- Ensure products meet the needs of partner customer bases, including microinsurance and embedded insurance solutions.
- Gather market intelligence to inform product development.
Training & Capacity Building
- Train partner staff on Britam products, processes, and sales techniques.
- Develop sales tools and materials for partner use.
- Ensure consistent knowledge transfer and capability development.
Marketing & Activation
- Plan and execute joint marketing campaigns with partners.
- Drive activations, promotions, and customer engagement initiatives.
- Support digital campaigns for embedded and technology-driven channels.
Reporting & Analytics
- Track channel performance, including sales, conversion rates, and profitability.
- Prepare periodic reports and insights for management.
- Use data to refine strategies and improve channel efficiency.
Compliance & Risk Management
- Ensure all partnerships comply with regulatory and internal policies.
- Monitor adherence to underwriting and operational standards.
Key Performance Measures
- Revenue growth from Alternative Distribution Channels.
- Number of active partnerships and revenue generated from each partnership.
- New business acquisition.
- Conversion rates per partner.
- Product penetration rates.
- Channel profitability and other measures agreed with the Line Manager.
Knowledge, experience and qualifications required
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Marketing, Insurance, or a related field.
- Certification in Insurance (COP, Diploma in Insurance, or ACII) is an added advantage.
Experience
- Minimum of 3 to 5 years’ experience in business development, sales, or distribution management, preferably within the insurance or financial services industry.
- Proven track record of achieving sales targets and growing a distribution network.
- Experience in recruiting, training, and managing insurance agents is highly desirable.
Knowledge and Skills
- Strong knowledge of insurance products, industry trends, and regulatory requirements.
- Excellent sales and negotiation skills.
- Strong training and coaching capability.
- Good understanding of market dynamics, competitor analysis, and business intelligence.
- Strong relationship management skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, and PowerPoint).
