CARE International in Uganda has since 1989, continued to positively impact the lives of women and girls in the country. For the period 2021-2025, CARE has committed to "strengthening the resilience and adaptive capacities of 500,000 poor and vulnerable people (60% women and girls) to effects of climate change and to promote their meaningful participation in sustainable natural resources governance".
Specifically, CARE's response to the climate crisis sets out to tackle the gendered consequences of climate change and natural resource degradation. We address structural and strategic gender needs of women and girls including support women and girls voice and leadership. We are aware that the Climate crisis requires concerted efforts across the board, and we believe that in order to create and multiply impact, we need to work with and through local partners. In view of this therefore, CARE is looking for implementing partners that are interested in working with us on the following four components under the CLIRK project in Kikuube, Kotido, Kaabong and Karenga Districts.
1. Local Knowledge & Agency. Using tools, such as Climate Vulnerability and Capacity Analysis (CVCA) for risk, hazard, and vulnerability profiling, to consolidate and integrate local knowledge about climate adaptation strategies into planned innovative solutions. This component also involves strengthening of existing local multi-stakeholder platforms to better respond to localized community adaptation needs. The component will also support targeted Local Government to set up early warning systems.
2. Crisis Response: This component will support the respective district local governments to prepare district Disaster Contingency Plans (DCPs), using a multi- hazard approach, including by strengthening systems for disaster response. In the event of immediate crisis, including an influx of refugees in Kyangwali, direct support will be provided as part of the joint response by the district and its partners, based on the DCPs.
3. Southern Leadership: This component will support CSOs, CBOS, activists, start-ups, media coalitions and networks focused on climate and humanitarian action, to strengthen their legitimacy, document evidence and best practices.
4. Green & Just Policies: Under this component, local CSO networks, CBOs, activists, and private sector actors will be supported to carry out evidence-based advocacy and to influence local and national policies that promote green and gender transformative solutions for production of food and energy.
