Background: The Joint Clinical Research Centre (JCRC) in collaboration with Maherse University (Mak), and Mbarna University of Science and Technology (NUST). Is pleased to announce a Call for Applications for Masters Research Scholarship opportunity in Cell and Gene Therapy (CAGT) for HIV Cure. The training programme is supported by the Fogarty International Center of the National Institutes of Health (HIH) in the United States. The programme seeks to develop an open cadre of African scientists equipped with cutting-edge knowledge and skills in CAGT with focus on HIV cure and related translational research.
Be Ugandan
Should be enrolled in one of the following Masters programmes at Mak or NUST: Medicine, Biochemistry, Immunology, Molecular Biology, Bioinformatics, Microbiology and Social Work.
Have successfully completed their first year of training under normal academic progress and are ready to begin their research, with a stamped testimonial provided as evidence.
Willingness to undertake and complete all training mandated by this programme.
Demonstrate progress in training and conducting research in CAGT for HIV cure, with a clear commitment to developing a productive career and leadership in this field.
Commitment to publish research conducted under this training in reputable open access peer reviewed journals.
Willingness to engage in multidisciplinary research grant applications and international collaborations.
Full tuition fees at Mak or NUST
Monthly stipend for one year
Research support including fieldwork costs
Mentorship from local and international leading scientists
Training in scientific writing, grant development, and responsible conduct of research
Funding support to present research at local and international conferences
Cover letter (maximum 1 page) expressing interest in the programme
Curriculum Vitae (maximum 3 pages)
Personal Statement (maximum 1 page) - must address eligibility criteria above
No more than 3-page research synopsis related to CAGT for HIV cure
Bachelors degree transcripts and other relevant academic documents or certification
Two reference letters, including at least one from an academic review, should be sent separately to the email address provided below by the application deadline
