Qualifications or requirements (e.g., education, skills)
- National Certificate in Woodwork Technology (NCWT), or Carpentry and Joinery Level II (Advanced Level Certificate).
- Possession of a National Diploma in Carpentry and Joinery shall be an added advantage
- Knowledge of mathematics, geometry, and engineering is beneficial.
- Carpentry and Joinery Certification like the Certified Journeyman Carpenter credential shall be an added advantage.
- Must not be above 30 years of age at the time of application.
Experience needed
- At least three (3) years' experience in carpentry and joinery. Hands on experience in making and repairing furniture in a busy institution shall be an added advantage.
- Hands-on experience in working with carpentry materials.
- Excellent understanding of carpentry techniques and methods of installation and construction.
- Proficiency in using electrical and manual equipment and measurement tools such as powered saws, hammers, and rulers.
- Ability to read technical documents and drawings.
Responsibilities or duties
- Interpreting blueprints and drawing up plans to determine materials required and plans of action.
- Measuring, cutting, shaping, and smoothing lumber and other construction materials.
- Constructing building frameworks including walls, floors, and door frames.
- Ensuring that structures are level, square, securely assembled.
- Installing features such as doors, cabinets, stairs, and paneling, using leveling devices to ensure accurate installation of structures.
- Inspecting and replacing damaged frameworks, or other structures and fixtures.
- Operating and managing construction materials, tools, and equipment.
- Maintaining a safe and clean working environment by adhering to safety and health regulations.
- Building scaffolding and other construction structures.
- Collaborating with other construction professionals such as electricians, plumbers, ad architects to ensure specifications are met.
- Providing advice and feedback to clients about the best materials and structures for their needs.
- Modifying building materials and creating custom cabinetry or other detailed architectural or furniture items, and performing minor calculations to assess load requirements and material dimensions.
- Replacing furniture and all structures in line with carpentry needs.
- Performing any other duties that may be assigned from time to time.
