Job Description: Chocolate Supervisor / Manager
Location: Kampala, Uganda
Term: 2 Years – renewable
Gross pay: UGX 1.5M
Company Overview

Our client is a rapidly growing social enterprise in Uganda sourcing specialty cacao for export and producing bean-to-bar chocolate at origin. Working with over 1,000 certified organic smallholder farmers, our mission is to sustainably increase incomes and reduce risk for our suppliers while positively impacting the community and environment surrounding our operations. They aim to provide chocolate makers and consumers in East Africa and around the world with the highest quality, transparently sourced, and fully traceable Ugandan cocoa products.

Job Description
The Chocolate General Manager position is a full-time, in-country position implementing marketing, advertising, and distribution strategies for the company within Uganda, East Africa, and overseas. The core responsibilities include:
• Operations Management (60%) – most critical
o Coordinate production schedules and capacities of the chocolate factory
o Ensure production, packaging, machinery, and storage procedures are in place and being adhered to
o Coordinate procurement of all required raw materials and packaging
o Supervise logistics and order fulfillment for the chocolate products
o Supervise inventory management for raw materials, work in progress, and finished goods
o Monthly budgeting and reporting for Kampala operations
o Ensuring proper accountability for operations, specifically the transfer of materials in/out of the company and between departments
o Oversee the management of production staff schedules and performance
o Support HR in recruiting, hiring and onboarding of Chocolate staff
o Oversee management of Kampala office, premises & and tenants
• Marketing & Brand Development (40%)
o Support marketing, comms & sales strategy across all markets
o Support on branding & advertising activities
o Oversee management of strategic and high-value customer accounts
o Develop brand awareness both locally, regionally and overseas
o Contribute to new product development activities
o Contribute to the development of new packaging and build out of brand identity
o Develop and coordinate strategic brand partnerships, holidays, and events.

In addition to these responsibilities, all employees are encouraged to propose programs, strategies or experiments which they feel offer a promising avenue for improvements to the company or livelihoods of the farmers.

Qualifications:
o Bachelor’s and/or Master’s degree from a reputable university in a related field
o Prior experience in marketing, sales, and distribution of food products in Sub-Saharan Africa
o Knowledge of or previous experience in hospitality, food and beverage, food manufacturing, confectionery, bakery supply chain, and/or specialty product distribution
o High degree of organization and communication skills
o Fluent in spoken and written English
o Ability and willingness to learn on the job
o Outgoing personality with an interest in quality products made in Africa
o Positive attitude and sense of humor
